This document discusses the impacts of tourism on different parts of the world. It provides examples of both positive and negative impacts on people, the economy, and the environment. Students conduct research on the impacts of tourism in various areas and share their findings. They then discuss whether tourism is overall good or bad for countries/areas by considering both the benefits and drawbacks they identified. The document also introduces ecotourism as a form of tourism that can help reduce negative impacts and defines its three strands: social, environmental, and economic.
2. How can tourism have an impact on different
parts of the world?
• Talk to your friend and draw a spider diagram
• What did you write?
Impacts of
Tourism
3. • Watch this clip on the impact of tourism in Mallorca and add to your
list.
• Which impacts are positive (P) and which are negative (N)?
Mark on P or N.
These impacts also can effect PEOPLE, ECONOMY and the
ENVIRONMENT
– WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
• Sort your impacts into these 3 categories by highlighting in 3 colours
and include a key
4. Impacts of Tourism in Different Parts
of the World
• In groups of 4 research the impacts of tourism on different areas of
the world:
• 1. Mark on the location of your designated area
on your copy of the World map.
• 2. Use the links on Showbie to help you start finding
out about your area and then try some of your own
research using your iPads.
• 3. Make sure you find some positive and negative
impacts and have a variety of social, economic and
environmental impacts too.
5. Sharing your information
• Each of you will be given a number and you will form a new, larger
group
• You will each feedback your research to your new group
• As you listen to the others in your group, mark onto your map:
a. the location of their tourist study area
b. annotate the map with the impacts of tourism in this area
6. Is Tourism Good or Bad for countries/areas?
Think, Pair, Share
• Think: In silence read through your annotations around the map and
think about the question
• Pair: discuss your thoughts with the person next to you – refer to the
information on the map
• Share: Each of you express your view point in your larger groups and
then discuss the question.
7. Is Tourism Good or Bad for countries/areas?
Explain why.
Answer the question above in your exercise books:
Write about half a side to explain what you think. You should consider both
negative and positive impacts as well as the social, economic and
environmental impacts of tourism.
Refer to the information on your map to support your points.
