These are the slides from a talk I did for our youth group on having a Biblical worldview with emphasis on the 12 questions raised in "A World of Difference" by Kenneth Richard Samples
11. “All Scripture is breathed out by God
and profitable for teaching,
for reproof,
for correction,
and for training
in righteousness,
that the man of God
may be complete,
equipped for
every good work.”
(2 Timothy 3:16–17, ESV)
12. “knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture
comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy
was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from
God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter
1:20–21, ESV)

The way you view reality controls the way you live
If your mental picture of what the world is really like is flawed, your daily decisions and actions will be flawed too.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2, ESV)
“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:2, ESV)
Question, what is the core of a biblical world view?
•God’s Word
•God’s commands
•God’s salvation
•God Himself (The Bible is important because it is our only source of knowledge about who and what God is)
What would Jesus do?
A Biblical Christian is Christ-centred and Bible-based
What is the Bible?
The Word of God. Not man’s word, Not man’s word about God, but God’s word to and through man
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16–17)
“knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:20–21)
For a biblical Christian, Scripture overrides all other sources of knowledge
The Bible is the authoritative guide to what is real and what is right. It is our primary filter through which we interpret the world
If we are going to base our lives on the Bible, there are some important questions we should consider:
•What if the information in the Bible is not accurate?
•What if errors crept in over many years of copying the bible?
•What if some of the books God wanted us to have in the Bible are lost?
•How do we know it is reliable?
•There is plenty of external evidence that confirms the accuracy of the Bible
•The Old Testament was preserved meticulously by scribes
•The New Testament has been shown to be the most reliable historical text ever
•Plenty of other writings confirm the accuracy of the Bible
•New discoveries continue to silence those skeptics who have highlighted potential inaccuracies
•There is more evidence to it’s accuracy than any other text trusted by man (other trusted historical writings)
Is the Bible a strong influence in your life? Three reasons why it might not be…
Ignorance: If you don’t know the Bible and what it teaches, how can you base your decisions on its teachings?
Decreased trust: If you don’t trust the bible, you might be swayed by other teachings (evolution)
Pragmatism: “If it works, it must be right”. If we don’t believe in absolute truth then how can we view Scripture as the absolute, final authority for life?
Are the ten commandments the ten suggestions in your life?
The 12 questions…
…and the Bible’s answers
1. Ultimate Reality: What kind of God, if any, actually exists?
There is only one true God
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” (Deuteronomy 6:4, ESV)
““You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.” (Isaiah 43:10, ESV)
“And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” (John 17:3, ESV)
“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,” (1 Timothy 2:5, ESV)
God the Father is God
“one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:6, ESV)
“For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,”” (2 Peter 1:17, ESV)
“Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”” (John 6:27, ESV)
Jesus (God the Son) is God
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1, ESV)
“For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,” (Colossians 2:9, ESV)
“Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”” (John 20:28, ESV)
The Holy Spirit is God
“The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” (Genesis 1:2, ESV)
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” (Ephesians 4:30, ESV)
“But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit … You have not lied to man but to God.”” (Acts 5:3–4, ESV)
2. External Reality: Is there anything beyond the cosmos?
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1, ESV)
“All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:3, ESV)
“By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” (Hebrews 11:3, ESV)
3. Knowledge: What can be known and how can anyone know it?
“And he said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’ ”” (Job 28:28, ESV)
“Let us choose what is right; let us know among ourselves what is good.” (Job 34:4, ESV)
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!” (Psalm 111:10, ESV)
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Proverbs 1:7, ESV)
4. Origin: Where did I come from?
“then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” (Genesis 2:7, ESV)
“So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.” (Genesis 2:21–22, ESV)
“The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for “ ‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “ ‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ Being then God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”” (Acts 17:24–31, ESV)
5. Identity: Who am I?
“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. … So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:26–27, ESV)
““Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.” (Genesis 9:6, ESV)
“With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.” (James 3:9, ESV)
“Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.” (Psalm 8:5–8, ESV)
6. Location: Where am I?
“The heavens are the Lord’s heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of man.” (Psalm 115:16, ESV)
“The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,” (Acts 17:24–26, ESV)
7. Morals: How should I live?
The 10 commandments…
““Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”” (Matthew 22:36–40, ESV)
““So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12, ESV)
8. Values: What should I consider of great worth?
Worship only God
“And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37, See also Mark 12:29-30)
Respect all people
“And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39, See also Mark 12:31)
“And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39, See also Mark 12:31)
9. Predicament: What is humanity’s fundamental problem?
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23, ESV)
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, ESV)
10. Resolution: How can humanity’s problem be solved?
“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, ESV)
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9, ESV)
11. Past/Present: What is the meaning and direction of history?
God is sovereign over history
“He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;” (Daniel 2:21, ESV)
“nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us,” (Acts 17:25–27, ESV)
God entered into history
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14, ESV)
“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” (Philippians 2:5–7, ESV)
God will bring history to an end
“And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”” (Acts 1:9–11, ESV)
“I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:” (2 Timothy 4:1, ESV)
“for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” (Hebrews 9:26–28, ESV)
12. Destiny: Will I survive the death of my body and, if so, in what state?
““When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. … Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. …And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”” (Matthew 25:31–46, ESV)
““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, ESV)
“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,” (John 11:25, ESV)
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” (John 5:24, ESV)
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28, ESV)
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” (Philippians 3:20–21, ESV)
