2. DEFINITIONS
Consumerism is consuming more than you need and buying things that
you do not really need.
Downshifting is the idea that buying things and having money is not the
most important thing and is based on finding a balance between leisure
and work.
Conservers are the people who conserve their things and don´t throw
away as much.
Consumers are the people who consume without need.
3. HOW IT AFFECTS ME
I consume electricity, electronics like earphones, cables etc, but I am
not a big consumer.
If I don´t consume these things in an unnecessary way I could spend
that money on more important things.
4. HOW IT AFFECTS SOCIETY
To start, mass consumption hurts less
developed countries because all the
waste is going to end up in those
countries.
But, if we talk about my own society
consumerism is a problem, because if
we do not consume so much and only
use what is needed, we would have
more money for what really matters.
5. CRITERIA WHEN CHOOSING A PRODUCT
First of all think before buying if you really need it.
If you already have this product thinki if it is really worth it to buy it.
Look at where it comes from, because if it is made in a undeveloped
country surely children have made it in bad conditions.
6. THAT WE CAN DO TO FIX IT
I tdon´t think we can do anything immediately to stop people from
consuming in excess. This falls on my conscience.
