3. ADVANTAGES OF CONGLOMERATE

If we choose a conglomerate company to produce our film it means our film
will have a larger and wider audience. As many people see big film
companies and if they are associated with good films they will want to go and
watch them – therefore expanding our audience.
•
Our film would be a lot easier to get into cinema’s as these companies would
have contacts, meaning they could get in touch with people who would show
our film. This guarantee's some form of success as we would actually be able
to get our film out there.
•
Overall there is a higher chance of our film being successful, as they already
have a large and wide audience who associate their films with being good
and entertaining. Also by using their range of contacts it would be easier to
showcase our film.
4. DISADVANTAGES OF CONGLOMERATE
•
We would have to follow the strict conventions of thriller films. This is because
they know these sell films as it is what people look for in thriller films. This
would hold back our creativity as we would not be able to do anything new or
exciting.

The company would want a large share of the money, obviously meaning
each of us would end up with a smaller share and might not make that much
money out of it once they have taken their quota.
•
They would be unlikely to take any of our idea’s on board because (as
mentioned before), not sticking to the conventions might not sell the film.
They would also want the largest input which would hold us back massively,
meaning it would be more their film than ours.

Conglomerate companies are more likely to claim rights to the film, meaning it
wouldn’t really have anything to do with us in the end. And would be their film
and not ours.
5. ADVANTAGES OF INDEPENDENT FILMS
•
One of the main and important advantages of using an independent film
company is that we would have the most say in what we wanted to do
creatively. Meaning the film could be our own and we wouldn’t have to stick to
what they wanted.

By sticking with independent we would be allowed to break the
conventions, this appeals to us because for our film we have already broken
the convention of age in a killer. Therefore we wouldn’t have to change this to
something we didn’t want to do. It would also allow us to break more
throughout our film, which would make it different to other films and therefore
it wouldn’t just become another thriller film and it would stand out.
6. DISADVANTAGES OF INDEPENDENT FILMS

Unfortunately most independent film companies are not as well known as the
conglomerate ones, this would therefore mean it wouldn’t attract as large or
wide audience. And there would be no guarantee of people coming to see it.

Would not have as many contacts with cinema’s, etc, unlike a conglomerate.
This would mean it would be harder to get our film out there and seen, as
they may not be in contact with people who could show it.
7. ALTERNATIVE METHODS
YouTube:
YouTube would be a great way to share our film, as it would allow access to
anyone and anywhere to see it. It would be completely free on both sides, as
we would not have to pay to have it shown and people would be able to watch it
for free (unlike they would if we showed it in a cinema).
It allows people to show and share it to their friends, therefore helping enlarge
our audience and give us more popularity.
The only downside is that we would receive no money from this and there is no
guarantee that anyone would watch it and share it, meaning we could end up
with no audience at all.
Social Networking Sites:
We could also post our film on sites like Twitter and Facebook, but like YouTube
there is no guarantee of any success. But it does make it easier for people to
view and share it.
8. WHICH WOULD BE BEST SUITED FOR US
A UK based company would probably be best for us, for the obvious reason of it
being more accessible. Also our film will appeal more to a primarily UK based
audience, because of the rural and British locations we have used and also our
use of British actors.
An Independent film company would also be best for us. As they would give us
creative lead, meaning we could do what we wanted with our film. They would
also allow us to break the common conventions, which is especially good for our
film as, for example, we have already broken one based around ages of a killer.
Whereas if we went with a conglomerate film company we would be restricted in
our creativity and what we could do.
However, we would not have as much guaranteed success as we would if we
went with a conglomerate film company. Yet going with an Independent company
would allow us a lot more creative lead and a bigger share of the profits overall.
