I have used Photoshop for several parts of my project. The first I process I will discuss, I have used photoshop in the construction of my final documentary. I have used photoshop to edit stills I have exported from Adobe Premier Pro and edited these by adding filters such as 'Neon Glow' to give an interesting effect to my still image. I then imported this into Adobe premier and I dragged this into my timeline, and I have created a more visually interesting way of introducing members from the documentary by 'freezing' their actions through use of my still image and inserting text with their name over this to introduce them. I think this was at first quite challenging, however I think that as I experimented more with the filters I could add to my still image and editing this to make this appear very bold and interesting, I became more familiar with the software and using this to create these effects.
I have also used photoshop when creating my drafts for my poster. By creating the drafts this allowed me to experiment with different fonts, different colour tones within the photograph, black and white and brightness and contrast. I did this to see visually what my idea's looked like and to see what I think works better to make Poster. I then used photoshop to create my final poster. I begun by selecting an A3 size for my page - as this is what my target demographic told me they would prefer. I then placed a photograph I had taken on the day of filming onto my background. I used the free transform tool to adjust the size of the photograph to ensure this filled the page - as again this is what my audience prefered 'one big image rather than several smaller images'. I then adjusted the brightness and contrast of my photograph. For my masthead on the poster I selected a font from dafont.com. I then placed this onto my photograph, I selected the white background behind the font using the magic wand tool and I deleted the white background. I continued to edit this by adding a drop shadow to this. I chose the drop shadow colour by using the eye dropper tool to select this purply colour from the wheel in the photograph. I titled this title slightly because I felt this would add to the idea of 'youth and rebellion'. To make my poster appear more professional I added a 'Sun dance' film festival award. I also did this because I feel this would relate to my documentary more as sun dance film festival awards are usually linked with independent films which have a niche genre, and our documentary, due to the genre would be an independent film. After this process I applied text to my poster, adding quotes from Empire and the Daily Mirror. I did this as these are features which are usually on a poster to sell this to the consumer. I then added the finishing details to my poster by adding the text above my title and at the very bottom of the poster. I think this poster works really well, and I think I have used Photoshop appropriately for this poster.
All my ancillary projects were created on photoshop. I completed my 'double page spread magazine listings review' by using the same techniques as I developed when creating my draft posters and my final poster. My other ancillary project my newspaper TV advertisement was also created on photoshop. Again I used the same techniques I have previously discussed.
Ihave used this software to create my short documentary. Before creating my short documentary I practiced on this software with a short clip of making a cup of tea. I practiced with cutting the clip, scaling the clip, adding transitions to the clips and reordering the clips. I thought this was very useful and this prepared me for my next stage of editing my documentary as I began to get familiar with the software.
To create my final documentary I used Adobe Premier Pro. On the software I have used many editing techniques such as; cutting my footage, adding filters to my clips, editing the brightness and contrast of my clips, scaling my clips. All these have improved my original footage either through making this appeal more to the target audience or making the footage look visually more professional and attractive. I have also added soundtracks to my footage and created montages on the software. I have inserted text and still images within my documentary to ensure my footage introduces the participants.
Before filming our documentary we have practiced with this camera so that we can get used to creating a slow movement on the tripod and zooming in on the person involved. This was really useful as this allowed us to get used to the camera and how to work this. When filming our footage we chose the tape camera. We chose this because this was HD and would suit our documentary more. On the day of filming we used the camera both hand held and using a tripod. As the sport was really fast and constantly moving, we found this challenging to follow the BMXer and keep them in the shot throughout, this was also due to the ramps allowing the height to change as well. We tried to vary our shots by moving around the skateboard park and climbing up the ramps and getting high angle shots and kneeling next to the ramps to get low angle shots. This has worked and our footage is very interesting were we have done this.
