1. What we sometimes refer to as ‘bad news’ is often good business for the newspapers and news programmes. The threshold is lower for reporting bad news than for good news; such news is also usually unambiguous, consonant, and occurs in a short space of time.
2. = NEGATIVE = POSITIVE From this screenshot, as you are able to see the majority of the stories selected for the homepage are mainly negative, with having four out of six stories being pessimistic. http://www.basingstokeobserver.co.uk/
3. A hammer attack- this is extremely negative and violent, however has been pushed to the side and not used as one of the main stories. Rapists jailed- this story can be seen as both positive and negative as they have been caught and are serving their time however it is negative as they have committed the crime. Positive story about the royal couple coming to town- this story is portraying a upbeat aspect and reaching out to the readers. http://www.suttonguardian.co.uk/ The Sutton guardian appears to have a mixed view with negativity however again the majority of the stories are yet again negative for example the hammer attack.
5. Subsequent to looking at three random newspapers I am able to see the dramatic difference in negative and positive stories used within the local newspaper community
