This document discusses several key aspects of environmental policy, including that policies are constrained by governmental rules and based on cooperation. The main focus is how policies are highly incentive-based. Environmental assessment has been used for decades to evaluate policies and prevent environmental harm, though its effectiveness is debated. Environmental policy is heavily influenced by globalization and international treaties. Finally, both federal and provincial governments work to create efficient policies, though there can be issues with their cooperation.

 Environmental policies are based upon a
cooperation model – where there is give and

3.  My main focus for this paper will be the idea
that environmental polices are highly
incentive based
 I will look at how this impacts environmental
policies as a whole
 implementation
 The design of the policy
 Evaluation of the policy

4.  Environmental assessment has been
happening for approximately four decades
 This helps look at environmental issues and
create environmental programs
 There is a lot of debate around whether
environmental assessment is helpful or not
 Evaluation of the policy is surrounding whether or
not EA should be a tool to help prevent harm to
the environment

5.  Environmental policy is heavily influenced by
globalization
 Environmental policy is easily influenced by
globalization because a lot of environmental
issues are interconnected throughout the world
 Environmental policy is also influenced by
economic globalization

6.  A lot of the reasons we have certain
environmental policies, like pollution
prevention is due to the fact we are involved
in international treaties
 This links back to the idea of globalization
 These international treaties heavily impact
different environmental policies and how the
polices are enforced

7.  There seems to be two main enforcers and
creators of environmental policy
 Federal government
 Provincial government
 A lot of the time these two levels of
government need to work together to
produce the most efficient policies
 With that being said there is also issues involved
with the two levels of government

8.  Through doing research it became apparent
that environmental policy is very incentive
based
 The government wants to be rewarded for
policies they implement if a positive change has
been made
 Promoting environmental protection at the
lowest cost possible
 Rewarding individuals for being environmentally
friendly
