2. Sections covered by codes of practice
• Codes of practice are a set of written rules telling staff employed by a company on
how they should behave. Theses cover regulations in general and rules for
different sections of work. There are many different sections within a workplace
that are covered by a code of practice. These include:
• Disciplinary and grievance Procedures
• Disclosure of information
• Time off for trade union duties and activities
• Settlement agreements
• Handling complaints in a reasonable manner
3. Example of codes of practice:
• In a business, they may state that:
• “Due to the sensitive nature of our particular consultancy services, we will
not provide a service to a direct competitor of a client, and we generally
try to avoid any dealings with competitor companies even after the
cessation of services to a client”. - this is an example of how a company
would deal with conflicting interests.
