ESG reports of 13 major companies in S. Korea are analyzed for fining characteristics of ESG material metrics disclosures of S. Korean companies. Published English ESG reports of 13 companies are classified and measured using a custom developed AI/NLP tool. The 3 Pillars of ESG - Environmental, Social, and Governance – are grouped for 10 material metrics based on AI topic modeling of major ESG reporting standards and guidelines : E-climate change, E-environmental sustainability, E-natural resources, E-pollution, E-waste, G-code of conduct, G-governance practice, S-business relationship S-human care, and S-social responsibility. Top companies that obtain high scores in measurement of elaborations in disclosing ESG material metrics are Doosan Infracore, KB Financial Group, LG Chemical, LG Electronics, and Samsung Electronics. In general, their ESG reports cover nearly all ESG material metrics. On average, ESG scores in measurement of disclosing elaborations in material metrics for environmental pillar, especially for climate change, were lower than those of global companies in several industry sectors . Thus, more elaborations are required in disclosing environmental related ESG material metrics for S. Korean companies.
