This document provides instructions for an assignment asking students to analyze and critique the way gender is communicated or enforced in a contemporary event from the news, television, or social media. Students must pick a "story", support their position on the gendered communication with evidence from assigned readings and outside research, and convince the reader to adopt their perspective. The goal is to demonstrate understanding of course concepts regarding power, gender, race, class and ability through persuasive writing that introduces, supports, and concludes the argument.
