GDW creates successful projects by crafting magical destinations that attract a wide variety of people; entice them to visit repeatedly; and cause them to linger longer. Description GDW is a boutique design studio specializing in the master planning architectural and experiential design of mixed-use town centers and retail, dining and entertainment [RD+E] destinations. GDW selectively pursues only a few significant commissions each year, allowing design principal Brent Thompson to personally craft every GDW project. The result is a consistent level of quality design, and a history of projects that bring success to our clients. Recent examples of the success of our methodology include the InterContinental Hotels Alpensia Resort in Pyeongchang, Korea, RoseValley residential development in Chengdu, China, DecoCity new town in Chengdu, China TEDA Promenades/ InterContinental hotels town center in the Bin Hai New Area, China, Celebration Town Center in Los Angeles, the TimeWarner Experience in New York City, and major attractions in Disney’s Tokyo DisneySea. Success Stories Alpensia resort village, based on British Columbia’s Whistler resort, was designed with the express purpose of attracting the Winter Olympics to Korea. We are thrilled that the IOC has recently awarded Alpensia the right to host the 2018 Winter Games on behalf of Korea. The award winning, 2 million M2 [built area] TEDA Promenades, an urban town center complete with housing for some five thousand families, a soccer stadium, an InterContinental Hotel, shopping mall, major sports club, train station and convention center was privileged to play host to the World Economic Forum Asia meetings. Celebration Town Center serves as a prototype RD+E town center in a suburban setting. Materials and technologies developed in the design of the TimeWarner Experience set new standards for incorporating media within architecture. The innovative planning of DecoCity sets new standards for creating a vibrant town center that is totally integrated with the surrounding residential areas.
