REDCAR BLAST, THE JOURNEY BACK TO THE FUTURE (Sylvia Callaghan, FIOSH)
Sylvia, who is a self employed safety consultant operates as Sylvia Callaghan Associates and has
spent 37 years in the industry. She has a long standing affiliation with NESHEP going back to when
we started some 12 years ago.
Sylvia is currently employed as a member of the ‘Fabricom safety
team’ working towards the prestigious reopening of the Blast
Furnace at SSI-UK Redcar (Ex Corus). Sylvia began her career with
British Steel spending 13 years there in the 70’s & 80’s.
Her presentation at the February meeting will be
focusing on the past history of the furnace, the
mothballing, its modernisation and what the future
holds for the plant. The main emphasis will be on the
safe modernisation of the plant and going forward
using safe methods of work.
Sylvia’s presentations are informative, enjoyable, in
depth and were appreciated by her previous
audience’s. This is not one to be missed by anyone
who is interested in safe working practices and/or
the future of the steel industry on Teesside.
