Agenda for next NESHEP main meeting
Tuesday 7th February 2012
Venue – Wilton Centre from 09:30 (10:00 start)
Location – Exhibition Hall

WELCOMING 2012 (Alan Bassett, NESHEP Chairman and Director Cognition Media)
Alan will be welcoming everyone to our first meeting of 2012; he will discuss briefly what this year
has to offer, 2012 subscriptions and any other concerns.

REDCAR BLAST, THE JOURNEY BACK TO THE FUTURE (Sylvia Callaghan, FIOSH)
Sylvia, who is a self employed safety consultant operates as Sylvia Callaghan Associates and has
spent 37 years in the industry. She has a long standing affiliation with NESHEP going back to when
we started some 12 years ago.

Sylvia is currently employed as a member of the ‘Fabricom safety
team’ working towards the prestigious reopening of the Blast
Furnace at SSI-UK Redcar (Ex Corus). Sylvia began her career with
British Steel spending 13 years there in the 70’s & 80’s.

                                             Her presentation at the February meeting will be
                                             focusing on the past history of the furnace, the
                                             mothballing, its modernisation and what the future
                                             holds for the plant. The main emphasis will be on the
                                             safe modernisation of the plant and going forward
                                             using safe methods of work.

                                             Sylvia’s presentations are informative, enjoyable, in
                                             depth and were appreciated by her previous
                                             audience’s. This is not one to be missed by anyone
                                             who is interested in safe working practices and/or
                                             the future of the steel industry on Teesside.

REPORT FROM SUBGROUPS

A brief update from the Training & Development subgroup, outlining a
new ‘Supervisors Qualification’ (10/30 UCPD) currently being developed
by NESHEP in conjunction with Teesside University.

Please confirm your attendance to bianca@neshep.org by Friday 3rd February to reserve your
place. You are also welcome to bring along a colleague, so confirm their attendance too. The
meetings hold great opportunities to network and can count towards your CPD.
