2. Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson is a Swedish singer-songwriter who performs
under the name of Tove Lo (pronounced "Too-veh Lu"). Her "Lo" moniker
is Swedish for Lynx - a species of wildcat that Nilsson fell in love with at
the age of three while visiting an animal park.
Nilsson studied at the music-orientated high school Rytmus
Musikergymnasiet, which is similar to the UK's BRIT School, where she met
and befriended the future members of Icona Pop. Nilsson was for a time
a member of a music band called Tremblebee made up of students
from the school, before leaving to concentrate
on a solo singing and songwriting
career. She cut her teeth writing
songs for Girls Aloud and Icona Pop,
before achieving a solo
breakthrough with her 2013 tune
"Habits." The dark break up anthem
generated sufficient Internet buzz
to earn her a record deal with
Universal.
3. The song was released on 25 March 2013 as Tove Lo's second single, and
later re-released on 6 December 2013 under the title "Stay High". This song is
a remix of "Habits," featuring record production duo Hippie Sabotage. It
became Nilsson's first entry on the UK singles chart. "You're gone, and I've
got to stay high all the time to keep you off my mind," she sings. The video
shows her downing shots and hooking up with strangers, then crying
uncontrollably in a nightclub toilet.
The video begins with what looks like her memories from a hangover, as
images of whiskey, a shoe in a chandelier, and her making out with a man
flash on the screen. We then see what happened the night before. She
walks into a bar to get a bottle of whiskey, and drinks with a man. She is
then seen in a tea party with four other women. They drink champagne
amongst an array of cakes and cupcakes. As the video flashes white, you
see a glimpse of the other women's memories, seen mostly kissing. Near the
middle of the video, she becomes drunk and makes a mess at the tea party
with everyone else, taking her shirt off, smearing cake, and pouring
champagne on herself. She is then seen kissing the man she was drinking
with. In the end of the video, she is seen at home, vomiting into a sink.

5. The reason that I have decided to analyse the music video
“Stay High” by Tove Lo is because the video is based
around a girl who is drinking and doing drugs to forget
about her ex boyfriend. I wanted to use some of these
ideas in my own music video for the song that we will be
doing. I think in my own video I will use the idea of a young
girl who is drinking and doing drugs and not having a
good outcome. Because I am doing a drum n bass song, I
think that the using the idea of a young girl on drink and
drugs will fit in well as these songs are usually associated
with partying and drinking. In the ‘Stay High’video, the
drinking is not glamourized as she looks dirty and at the
end she passes out and I would like to portray this message
in my music video. You can see in the previous slide that
the images are not glamourizing drinking and doing drugs.
