A mainstream Italian media group handed over control of their social media accounts to local citizen groups for three months. They partnered with Instagramers Italia, an association of 180 community managers across Italy. Five regional communities each took over the media group's Instagram account for a month to share visual stories from their communities. The goal was to engage local communities and make readers feel responsible and involved in content creation. The experiment was a success, with communities autonomously sharing content without prodding from staff. It established a foundation for future collaborations.
