3. What Does the Bible Say?
• Bible doesn’t specifically talk to the word
“marijuana”
• Bible does deal with the heartbreak and
heartache that comes from use of recreational
drugs
4. What Does Society Say?
• Bible verses are being used to justify use of
marijuana
– i.e. Genesis 1:29
– Interpreted as: God made this seed and made
marijuana; therefore, it is to be enjoyed and used
recreationally
• Some say anointing oil used in Exodus 23 is
cannabis
– Actual term is calamus
5. Statistics
• 54% of teenagers in favor of recreational use
• 73% of society in favor of allowing medicinal
marijuana into marketplace
• 68% of Protestants, 73% of Catholics and
64% of Evangelicals in favor of medicinal
marijuana
• 13% of high school kids admit to driving after
using marijuana
7. What Should We Believe?
• We, as Christ followers, are called to be
different and distinct
• Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
• We are under the leadership of the Holy Spirit
and forbidden to be under the leadership of
anything else that would be mind-altering
8. Why Is Marijuana Bad?
• Plant itself isn’t the problem
• THC is the addictive substance within marijuana
• Half-life of marijuana is almost 7 days
(compared to 4-7 hours for painkillers)
• Not a healing agent, but a coping agent
9. Questions to Ask Yourself
• Can I use marijuana and still glorify God?
• Is there a chance I could become addicted to this
substance?
• Can I use marijuana and not be a stumbling block?
• Am I able to build up my brothers and sisters by
using marijuana?
• Can I use marijuana and be an effective witness for
the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?
