Documentación Audiovisual production Parte Introduction (Junior University Campus School - Universitat de Vic)
1. Production and postproduction processes
The processes of audiovisual production that we are using
in the Junior University are laid out in the following
diagram.
The rectangles refer to processes and the ellipses refer to
file transfer.

2. Further information about these processes and transfer
operations is available in the various tutorial documents
published by the Idaho Commission for Libraries (USA)1:

JayCut is an online video editor. This kind of tool is
relatively new. The JayCut project itself is about 4 years
old.
There are many advantages in working with JayCut, compared
to using more traditional video editing software. These are
some of the advantages:
• It's free
• You use it in your web browser so it's cross-platform
• It's easy to use
• Your data files are stored on the web ("cloud
computing") so you can work from any computer
• You don't need to worry about data loss
• It's adapted to web publishing
What are the disadvantages?
• You need a fast internet connection
• File processing can be slower than in desktop
applications
• Web applications can feel less "responsive" than
desktop applications
• The program can be too simple
• In the free version of JayCut you are restricted to a
maximum storage space of 2 GB (and 10 GB of streaming
per month).
Maybe there are some other advantages and disadvantages
that we haven't put in these lists. We'll see!
1 The Idaho Commission for Libraries ran a project where they used
JayCut to make adverts for books, to encourage young people to read
more.
