Discover Japanese Culture Beyond Sushi Through Chiaki's Story
1. Japan is more than a sushi !
When you think of Japan most of you think of sushi, am I right? But Japan
is much more than a sushi. Chiaki is going to help us discoverer Japanese
culture.
Chiaki was born and raised in Japan but she has lived in Thailand for three
years and now she lives in Vietnam.
Do you want to know Chiaki religion ? I bet you do. Chiaki is buddhist. She
goes to pray at temples but only three times a year. Chiaki thinks that her
religion does not impact in her every day life, but I can see that Chiaki is
really respectful with others maybe it is related to her Religion. In Japan
there is also a religion called shintoism, worship a multitude of gods (Kami).
The kami refer to natural elements such as : rock, rivers, sun...
Lets talk about Chiaki family. You guys are not going to learn if she has
three sisters or two, but you are going to learn about the power in the family
and who prepares food.
When I asked Chiaki who is the powerful one in Chiaki’s family, I really
loved her answer. She said “obviously my dad” with her big voice. If there is
a decision to take, her dad does. And her mom prepares dinner because in
old time women had to do housekeepers .So usually in Japan, moms
prepare dinner but it depends on the family.
Chiaki speaks Japanese. There is 3 ways to write this language. There are
Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana. The basics that the Japanese learn at
school are Kenji and Hiragana.Chiaki uses her language only when she is
at home because she studies in an international school. But Chiaki goes to
a Japanese academy to improve her native language.Chiaki feels
Japanese in her every day life specially when she talks Japanese or
celebrate Japanese festivals or things she only does in Japan.
2. Now that we have learned about Chiaki’s religion language and how she
acts with her family. We can see how her culture shapes her identity. And
Now that she told us a little be about Japanese I am ready to take a book
and study Japanese.
さよなら〜 Good bye.
お会いしましょう - See you again
