Avalanches in Panjshir Province
4. Consequences
● While avalanches are a regular occurrence in
north Afghanistan, Panjshir Province had not
experienced one of this magnitude in nearly 30
years.
● Afghan President Ashraf Ghani reported that
almost 300 people died as a result of snow and
flooding, with avalanches reaching as high as 130
feet.
● Most of the fatalities were in the Panjshir
Valley, where people became trapped in the
snow.
5. ● The Bayat Foundation donated $100,000 to
provide immediate relief to people affected
by the avalanche in Panjshir Province,
which is about 60 miles north of Kabul.
● Ehsan Bayat’s telecommunications
company, Afghan Wireless Communication
Company, also sent mobile base stations
and networking equipment to open
communication with people in remote
villages where snow blocked the roads.
