Integration Applicability
12. Existing Process
Conventional Heat
Source
Electrical Heater
Application Engine Head washing
Temperature Range 50-60 ⁰C
Electricity
Consumption
24 kWh per hour
After Heat Pump
Project size 28 kWth
Present Consumption 12 kWh per hour
Units saved per year 86,400 kWh
Annual Carbon
Abatement
73, 440 kg
19. Pros Cons
Direct Heating
Quicker installations with less integration
The chemical fluid from WM will enter the HP
condenser directly
Heat loss will be minimal comparatively High scale formation inside the HP condenser
Heat exchanger effectiveness will be more
comparatively
The performance reduces over a period of time
leading to frequent cleaning of condenser in HP
Cheaper & simple integration
Condenser life will be less as frequent acid
cleaning required
Scale formation, if unattended may lead to
compressor failure
More maintenance time and cost
Condenser cleaning to be done by the HP
specialist/OEM
Direct Integration Vs Indirect Integration
20. Pros Cons
Indirect Heating
(Through PHE)
Chemical fluid will never enter HP circuit
Heat Loss will be slightly more due to additional
Heat exchanger (PHE)
Zero scale formation inside the HP. The heat
transfer to chemical happens only
through PHE,hence HP is not affected
PHE cleaning can be done by the existing team as
anyway every industry uses PHE for their process
Only PHE to be cleaned and hence no condenser
cleaning required
One more additional circulation pump is required
No acid cleaning required hence condenser
lifetime is more
No danger of compressor failure
Lesser maintenance time and cost
Performance is unaltered due to indirect heating
Maintenance does not affect the production
