Tuning System
● Tuning a system can be static or dynamic
– Static will be from sysctl, /sys, or /proc
– dynamic will be tuning daemon.
● Redhat create system tuning daemon name tuned to help to tune
system for different workloads.
– In RHEL 7 and above come with 10 tuning profiles, and you can
create your custom profile.
The tuning profiles optimize system in power conservation and
network throughput.
● Dynamic tuning is disable by default
dynamic_tuning setting to 1 in /etc/tuned/tuned-main.conf.

Dynamic Tuning
● Install and start tuned
– Yum install tuned.
– systemctl start / enable tuned.service
● Lists all available tuning profiles
tuned-adm list
● Identify the currently active tuning profile on a system
tuned-adm active
● Change the tuning profile
tuned-adm profile “profilename”
● Recommend tuning profile
tuned-adm recommend
● Stop the tuning
tuned-adm off
