CONTENT ANALYSIS
New Terms:
Deforestation, Droughts, Desertification, Infiltration rate, Recycling
Facts:
• Deforestation increases the temperature and pollution level on the earth.
• Increase in the level of carbondioxide in the atmosphere leads to Global
warming.
• Deforestation disturbs the balance of nature.
• Rainfall and fertility of soil decreases due to cutting of trees.
• Deforestation increases the chance of natural calamities such as floods and
droughts.
• Fertile land gets converted into deserts called desertification.
• The infiltration rate of water into ground is reduced.
• Recycling is the process to change waste materials into new products to prevent
wastage of potentially useful materials.
Concepts:
Minor Concepts
• Deforestation leads to desertification, droughts and Global warming.
• Recycling of paper is one way to protect trees.
• Deforestation leads to reduce in rainfall.
Major Concept
• Deforestation disturbs the balance of nature and also is a threat to existence
of human beings.

Clearing of and cutting down of trees is deforestation and there are many consequences
of deforestation.

3. CLASSROOM INTERACTION PROCEDURE PUPIL RESPONSES
Teacher asked some questions to students to check
the knowledge about Forest Conservation.
1) What is deforestation?
2) Is there any harmful effect on deforestation?
Teacher says that,
“Today I am going to teach you about Forest
Conservation”.
Why we are conserving our forests or trees?
Teacher says, ‘Yes, there are various things to
answer the question “why we are conserving
forests?”’
Teacher says,
“Today I am going to tell a story about a poor tree.”
Activity I
Teacher shows a flashcard having picture of a tree
crying .
Teacher introduces the hero of the story as the tree.
Teacher tells that,
“Once upon a time , there was a big banyan tree in
a forest. One day a small boy saw the tree crying
bitterly and he went near it and asked why the tree
is crying.
Tree said: ‘Yesterday a woodcutter came and
marked upon me for cutting. Today he will come
and cut me.’
The boy felt pity on the tree.
Boy said: ‘If you are destroyed, then what will
happen to the birds who are staying in the tree’
Tree said: ‘They will definitely lose their shelter. If
the woodcutter cuts me, human beings will also be
affected.’
The boy wondered how the human beings is
1) Cutting down of trees
2) Yes
For fresh air, for proper rainfall, etc.
Pupil observes
4. affected by cutting of trees.
Tree explained, ‘Due to cutting down of trees,
deforestation takes place.
Deforestation leads to Global warming. You know
that plants need carbon di oxide for photosynthesis.
If cutting down of trees continues, Less carbon di
oxide will be used up resulting in increased
temperature.’
Boy asked: ‘What else takes place due to
deforestation?’
Tree says: ‘Increase in temperature on earth
disturbs the water cycle and may reduce rainfall
resulting in drought.’
Boy asked, ‘Is deserts formed due to
deforestation?’
Tree says: ‘Yes, the major cause of desertification
is deforestation. Fewer trees result in more soil
erosion. Removal of top layer of soil exposes
lower, hard and rocky layers. Thus soil became less
humus and less fertile. Gradually it gets converted
to deserts.’
Tree also says that the rate of movement of water
from soil surface to ground (Infiltration rate)
decreases. ie,. the water holding capacity of ground
decreases.
The boy asked the tree that he have one doubt that,
‘Why people are saying that we should not waste
paper in order to protect trees.’
Tree says , ‘Paper is made from wood of trees.
Wood of trees are made into pulps and is treated
with chemical fertilizers to make papers. So paper
should not be wasted for preventing cutting down
of trees. Used paper can also be recycled or further
used to protect cutting of trees.’
The woodcutter was listening to the conversation
and he felt that it will be a great mistake to cut
trees. So he went back without doing any harm to
the tree.
Pupils listens carefully
5. Activity II
Teacher gave the students a crossword puzzle to do.
Across
1) What happens when carbon di oxide
increases in Air?
2) Movement of water from soil surface to
ground?
3) Deforestation disturbs balance of what?
Down
4) Process of changing waste materials into new
products.
5) What happens when water cycle is
disturbed?
6) What is reduced when we disturb the water
cycle?
Consolidation:
Cutting down of trees is called deforestation and
due to this droughts are caused , deserts are
formed,etc.
