is used as a factor
- you can refer to expressions with exponents as powers
example: Suppose a cell splits into two cells every hour.
How many cells will there be after 12 hours?
The number of cells doubles every hour. You find the total by
multiplying 2 twelve times.
2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 4,096
