peasant satyagraha. Played a decisive role in the
integration of the Indian princely states.
• Dr. Rajendra Prasad: President of the Constituent
Assembly. Lawyer, known for his role in the
Champaran satyagraha. The first President of
India.
• Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar : Chairman of the
Drafting Committee. Social revolutionary thinker
and agitator against caste divisions and caste based
inequalities. Founder of Republican Party of India.
• Jawaharlal Nehru : Prime Minister of the interim

• Dream of Mahatma Gandhi- He was not a
member of the Constituent Assembly.
Years ago, he wrote in his magazine Young
India in 1931, that he wanted to be a part
of the making of Constitution
• This dream of an India that has eliminated
inequality was shared by Dr. Ambedkar,
who played a key role in the making of
the Constitution but he had a different
understanding of how inequalities could be
removed.
• Philosophy of our Constitution is seen in
our Preamble, the idea which we have
adopted from the USA
