The theory of evolution faced significant initial rejection because when it was introduced in the 1800s, the biblical view of creation was widely accepted. Over time, evolution has been the biggest clash between science and religion regarding how life originated and developed. While most scientists now agree that life has evolved over time through natural processes like natural selection, some segments of the public still believe a supreme being caused evolution rather than natural selection. Certain religions also continue to believe their god was the creator of life and reject the theory of evolution, making it one of the most resisted theories due to conflicts with religious beliefs.

2. • This theory is probably the best know example of initial rejection. The theory was introduced
in the mid 1800’s, this was when the biblical view of creation was still how people believed
where we originally came from.
• In the last centaury the biggest clash between science and religion has centred around
evolution and the explanation of the origin and development of human life.
• In June 2009, most scientist (87%) agreed that life on earth has evolved over time due to
natural processes such as natural selection. Natural selection is, ‘The process in nature by
which, according to Darwin's theory of evolution, only the organisms best adapted to their
environment tend to survive and transmit their genetic characteristics in increasing numbers
to succeeding generations while those less adapted tend to be eliminated’.
Even thought that some
people think that human
life came from evolution,
22% of the general public
think that there was a
supreme being causing this
to happen and not natural
selection occurring.

3. • As the theory has been developed over the years. Christians have accepted the the
theory of evolution and natural selection but they say that this has happened by
Gods doing.
• Where as other religions still believe that there God was the creator of life and
refuse to believe in this theory.
• This theory went through the most resistance and is still going through them
because of religion and how it goes against what they believe in.
