ÖPSCOTCH PTE LTD was founded 2012 and HMLËT became a subsidiary company
April of 2014. Co-founders Zenos, Yoan and Ming birthed the company with their own
private funding and sweat equity. HMLËT is the trademark name of ÖPSCOTCH PTE LTD.
A real estate startup that is helping young expats relocate to a new country more easily. They
provide shared houses without the typical hassles. Simple move in and move out process,
managed weekly maid service, no agent fees, fully furnished, no stress. HMLET team goal is
to provide beautiful rooms in prestigious developments in Singapore.
HMLET has big dreams of being the main provider of housing made simpler for
expats around the world. Ten countries in five years, starting with Singapore and now
opening Japan in September, co-founders Zenos and Yoan believe it’s an achievable goal.
While currently only seeking private funding they hope to grow enough to be found
interesting by more serious investors.

Management Trainee:
• Head overall sales and marketing efforts in Singapore
• Planning and execution of sales and marketing budget
• Work closely with business development staff and General Manager for sourcing of new
shared houses
• Maximise revenue generation and lead closures
• Analyse operational tasks and determine the most cost effective solutions
• Analyse potential housing determined by location within CBD area
4. Duties and Responsibilities
Working closely with Business Development staff to determine which flats are best
determined by proximity to MRT’s (Mass Rapid Transit), Locations of interest (Nightlife)
and proximity to work areas. Looking at trends in preferred expat localisation and typical
pricing in an area. Analysing the logistics of operational tasks and executing accordingly.
Posting ad’s for vacant or vacating rooms, responding to potential flatmates and conducting
showings of flats and rooms.

5. 5. Tasks Assigned
As management trainee I was tasked with a wide range of general and specific requests.
Including market research for potential flats in Singapore based on trends in real estate and
local geographic factors. Operational tasks consisted of contacting contractors of different
kinds to preform duties at the various flats HMLET manages. Sales included all the duties of
marketing and selling of the rooms that we manage.
6. Overall Assessment of the Internship
I could not have dreamed up a better internship than the one undertaken at Hmlet Singapore.
Not only was I paid, (what a concept!) I was given the opportunity to work in a new country
and meet people from all over the world! The environment in Singapore is prime for the rapid
growth of the skills that will make me successful in my future career anywhere I wish to go.
Singapore is a fast paced city with a vibrant expat community. English is spoken easily and
by most everyone so you never feel lost. More than anything the opportunity for growth
within the company at Hmlet gives me a lot of hope and excitement. Though a startup leaves
a lot to be desired especially in terms of work life balance and benefits. The opportunity to
become a General Manager, Director, Shareholder and founding team member lights me up
and drives me every single day of work. Plus in the environment of a startup, you are
required to be skilled in multitasking and are constantly challenged to do new things every
day to increase productivity and revenue. Those innovations you created are the deciding
factor of whether the business lives or dies!

6. 7. Job Description VS Reality
Way more work than I thought I would be getting into! When someone says internship I
assumed some low level tasks printing, filing and taking daily queues from more experienced
staff. Getting weekends off and generally being able to enjoy some off days in Singapore and
maybe even do some exploring around south east Asia. Nope, as soon as I touched down all
systems go petal to the metal non-stop figure it out and do it yourself. It was way more work
than I ever expected to do but what was required made me learn fast. I think that this type of
startup environment is an invaluable gift that was given to me to learn how to assimilate into
a fast pace environment and to accept responsibilities that I previously did not know I could
accomplish.
8. University Education
University education helped me to work within my deadlines. The internship in Singapore
required me to be a self starter and set my own deadlines University helped me reach those
deadlines by providing me a system with which I could use to achieve task completion on
time. Responding and interacting with people via email and in person. University taught me
the corner stones of responding with articulated thought, quickly and efficiently. Specifically
my Geography degree has taught me the importance of the old adage “Location, Location,
Location.” My experience in geography gives me a unique perspective on location analyses
of potential flats in Singapore.
