2. What is Noise?
 A sound which has unpleasant effects and discomfort to
ears is called as noise.
 Generally sound generated by vehicles, horns,
loudspeakers, planes, construction etc. are reasons of
noise pollution.

1) Constant exposure to loud noises can
damage ear drums and loss of hearing. It
also reduces sensitivity of ear drums to
pick up small sounds.
2) It can affect health and shows signs of
aggressive behaviour, sleep disturbance,
increase in stress level, fatigue
3) It can create hamper sleeping pattern (it
is recommended to take sound sleep and
not noise sleep :p)
4) It can increase blood pressure, heart
beat, headache

pets. They can behave more

9. How does the Noise Barrier Works?
1. The barrier blocks the direct path from the noise source to the
receiver.
2. A shadow zone is crated behind the barrier, in which listeners are
protected from the noise.
3. However sound can still reach the receiver by diffraction at the top

10. Design of a Noise Barriers
1. As tall as possible, to stop highway noise escaping
over the top of the barrier.
2. As dense as possible, to stop road noise passing
through the barrier.
3. Have no gaps or holes in or under the barrier, that
allow road noise to pass through.
4. Have an irregular surface to diffuse the sound when
it hits the acoustic barrier.
5. Wide enough, so that traffic noise does not get
around the sides of the barrier walls.
6. Constructed to create the most effective acoustic
sound shadow possible.
