Second international theoretical and practical youth conference “Youth and Project
Management in Russia: Management based on project systems in terms of developing strategic
changes” organized by National research university – Higher school of economics, Project
management association “SOVNET” and Young Crew SOVNET was held from May 30th to May
31st 2012.
The main goal of the 2-day conference was to
promote development of research projects in the
field of project management in Russia, and to
integrate young researcher and practitioners into
international community of project management
professionals.
There were more than 150 participants,
including representatives of big industrial,
consulting and financial services Russian
companies, members of more than 15
universities not only from Moscow but from
Siberia, Urals and near-Volga regions, as well as
guests from Australia (Stephen Hayes) and
Poland(Marek Wirkus).
During the two days of the conference seven
key events took place which enabled the
participant to discuss current state, tendencies
and perspectives of project management in
Russia.
During the 1st day, May 30th, more than 10
presentations from international and Russian
project management gurus were delivered
within the plenary meeting which was followed
by interesting round table “Managing
competences and human resources in projects” where participants discussed youth career/job
placement in project management field and gave their advice to the graduates and young
professionals.

The 2nd day was marked by a contest of presentations, four tracks on specific topics and a
workshop led by Young Crew SOVNET.

2. Modeling in project management;
3. Exploring project values and
management maturity in changing
conditions;
4. Managing communications and
human resources in projects;
More than thirty presentations were made, out
of which several were specially mentioned by the
organizers and earned their authors invitations to
apply for Master’s and PhD programs in NRU HSE.
At the end of the day the most firm took part in
Young Crew SOVNET “Collect Competences”
workshop which allowed to brainstorm in an
informal setting, communicate freely and
exchange experience with project management
professionals.
As many of the guests have noted, both participants and speakers, “we were glad to see so
many young people fascinated with developing in project management!”
