Teenage Abortion In The United States
Teen Abortion Teen abortion is something that everyone should take seriously. One in four teens that are pregnant have an abortion. That means that
every 25% of teen pregnancies come to an end. Out of all the different ages of abortion teens make up 18% of the 100%. 82% of all teen pregnancies
are accidental. Juggling school and a baby can be very hard on the mother and her family. About one half of all teen mothers graduate high school and
get their diploma. Most of the time mothers drop out just to take care of their baby (choicespregnancy). On a good note, the U.S teen pregnancy, birth
and abortion rates have gone done significantly and they are the lowest they have been in four decades. From 2008 to 2011 there has been a 23% decline

Teenage Women, Abortion and Law
Abortion has always been a very controversial issue. This can be due to the fact that people have different beliefs that are emphasized by their own
religion and set of moral values. Many people believe that abortion is wrong, but they believe that is it only wrong under certain circumstances. This
could be true, but is it more right to kill for a specific reason than to just do it because you made an irresponsible decision? Because of the wide

Those young women who do not or cannot tell their parents, however, often have important reasons such as a family history of alcoholism, emotional or
physical abuse, or incest. To involve such parents could invite further abuse of the teenager and other family members.

Misconceptions: Unsafe Abortion Among Teenagers
Unsafe abortion among teenagers is one of the major concerns within the health care sector that needs to be addressed. Several stakeholders have
recently shared their findings revealing that induce abortion accounts for a high proportion of deaths with many teenagers reporting the largest
proportion of admission related to abortion complications in the US according to (UNFPA, 2010).
Background.
Several research findings indicate that increased rates of death related to abortion complication are as a result of unintended pregnancy, especially
among teenagers. According to the United Nations Population Fund annual reports, a total of 6.8 million teen pregnancies occur annually across the
world. Among these pregnancies one in five is unplanned therefore half of the unplanned pregnancy end up as induced abortion .research further reveal
that there are a lot of misconception among young people about contraceptive (UNFPA ,2010).
Several circumstances limit accessibility and use of contraceptives these includes economic status among other important factors. According to the
recent research findings, urban teenagers are more likely to have good knowledge and use contraceptive compared to teenagers who live in the rural
areas. Some of the barriers that hinder teenagers from accessing family planning services are misconceptions and also their...show more content...
Ironically some section of this law makes it illegal to provide contraceptive advice especially for girls below 16 years. Such laws limit the efforts of

Teen Abortion Facts
Teenage girls are more likely to get an abortion. There has been approximately 750,000 teen pregnancies that occur each year. The teens are
unmarried and they think that it would be easier to get an abortion as to have a child. ( Facts & statistics about Teen abortions). If you are under the
age of 18 your state may require you to have one or both of your parents to give you permission to have the abortion, or be told your decision prior to
the abortion.(abortion information.). Girls that tend to get pregnant are the ones that don't think they will. Then they get stuck having to make a drastic
decision, either keeping the child or getting rid of it. Some people say an abortion is one of the safest surgical procedures for women in the U.S.

Essay about Adolescent Abortion
Adolescent Abortion Less then twenty–five years ago, any women who elected to terminate her pregnancy usually had to resort to illegal, unsanitary,
and unsafe means. Abortion was frequently considered a criminal offense committed by the woman and the physician performing the procedure. The
Supreme Court cases leading to the legalization of abortion began in 1963 with Griswold v. Connecticut. The court invalidated a Connecticut statute that
made possession and use of contraceptives by married couples a criminal offense. The case of Griswold was later expanded to encompass the woman's
right not only to prevent but also to terminate her pregnancy. In the case of Roe v....show more content...
The chart that I included on the following page lists the number and distribution of legal abortions, abortion rates per 1,000 women, and percentage
of pregnancies terminated by abortion, by age group from 1973 to 1981. (Melton 1986:43) The number of teenage abortions has risen since the
Supreme Court decision in 1973, but not as rapidly as the number of abortions to other woman of childbearing age. From 1973 to 1981, the number of
abortions to women aged 20–44 went from744,620 to 1,577,340 a rise of 112%. In contrast, the number of abortions to teenagers increased from
244,570 a rise of 84%. (Melton 1986:45)
The increase in number of abortions has been greater for older teenagers. Between the ages 15–19, the number of abortions went from 232,440 in 1973
to 433,330 in 1981, an increase of 86%. Below age 15, the increase was 31%, from 11,630 to 15,240. (Melton 1986:45)
Teenagers between 18 and 19 years of age have the highest demand for abortion services for women of any age, at 61.8 per 1,000 in 1981. For
teenagers aged 15–17 years, the rate was 30.1%. For teenagers below age 15 it was 8.6. (Melton 1986:60)
The rise in teenage abortion rates has been greater than that for women of childbearing age overall. Between 1973 and 1981, abortion rates for

The idea of parental consent when comes to teens getting abortions, is a war of permission vs. freedom choice. The argument of whether teenage

Essay on Teenage Abortion
The subject of teenage abortion, is an emotionally charged one. The two major groups are completely opposite in their beliefs. Rather than discuss the
emotional views of those groups, I have chosen to research, write, and conclude based on factual material, concerning teenage abortion. A discussion of
abortion as a definition is explained medically, and in a small part the emotional effects on theparticipant. I have chosen to report in a factual not an
emotional manner.
The direct definition of abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by loss or destruction of the fetus before birth. ("Abortion") There are two types of
abortion, spontaneous and induced. (Emmens 7) Spontaneous abortion occurs in the first trimester (first three...show more content...
Although abortion is rather costly procedure, it is far less then the long–term price of supporting a child.
Most teenagers are just not old enough, mentally or physically, to take care of and maintain a genuine home for a growing child. (Meier,46) For
many teens, having an abortion is a way to get on with their lives. A chance to forget the past and create a pathway to the future. (Karlse,44) The
entire concept of abortion may cause an abundance of internal conflict but, for an adolescent this procedure may very well be the best alternative.
For a countless number of pregnant teenagers, the notion of having an abortion is not brought on by themselves. Although the decision is a difficult
one on its own parents and boyfriends, most likely, will not help to make the process any easier. (Meier,46) The pressure from others put on
pregnant adolescents could force them into making serious decisions of having abortions, with little or no thought what so ever. Abortions might
also be chosen to hide the pregnancy from the people who care most. The procedure, in many cases, is completed before either parent of the girl is
informed. (Meier,46) Having an abortion is a common procedure in this day and age however, some risks are involved, though the majority can be
avoided. Abortion is expensive, if it is unaffordable, many girls may result to having it performed illegally. (Meier,49) Through the 1980's forty to sixty

Teen Abortions aren't Always a Bad Thing
Imagine it is late at night, and you are walking home from a friend's house. It's very dark and you can't really see what's going on until all of a
sudden, this random man grabs you and throws you into the back of his car. That same night this man rapes and sexually abuses you. Later on, you
find out that you are pregnant by this man and you don't want to keep it, but everyone around you is telling you that you shouldn't get an abortion
because you would then be labeled as killing your child. Now you are stuck debating whether or not you want to give birth to a baby that wouldn't be
here if you weren't raped that night you were walking home from your friend's house. One of the biggest dilemmas in today's time is whether or not
teen abortions should be legal. Every year, more than 50% of babies that are conceived, come into the world unwanted (Guttmacher). Whether it is from
the mother being raped, abused, not wanting their parents to find out, not wanting everyone to know that they had sex, or even just the thought of the
fact that she is a child raising a child. Therefore, all teens should be allowed to have an abortion for many different reasons without being told they are
murdering their child.
Abortions became a political debate after the court case of Roe v Wade legalized abortions in 1973. In the 1973 case ofRoe v. Wade, the U.S Supreme
court ruled that the woman has

Facts About Teenage Abortion
I was only 16. I stayed with my sister in the city where the clinic was, 45 minutes away from where I lived, so my dad wouldn't know. I was
nervous. It all took about a week. I had an attachment to this thing you couldn't even physically hold. I'd think about what kind of amazing life a kid
deserves and feel upset I wouldn't be able to provide that. –Frances, 18 (Winter, 11)
Having an abortion is like a car crash, its sudden for the baby, it can affect your whole life, and the life the baby doesn't get to live.
Unborn babies are considered human beings by the U.S government. The federal Unborn Victims of Violence act was put in place to protect unborn
children from murder and assault.
Abortion is happening all around us so often. Teens and young adults are constantly having "fun," but as they do they put aside what they know can

the economy. "A baby born today is an American worker in the future" said Shaw. Those babies could've been the ones who had grown up to be

What are the effects of Teenage Abortion?
At a young age, we do not have much say on what we want. A teen mother has part of the saying on the decision she wants to take. She does not only
worry about how her decisions will influence her life, but as well as her child. Teenagers always take on their decision making without understanding
the effects on them and their lives. About a quarter of all teenage pregnancies in the U.S. end inabortion. Teenage abortion is increasing a lot because

These negative impacts do not just affect one life, but as well as the mother's family. Many parents will alway say that they have put so much for
their children and their children are under pressure of just trying to make their parents proud. Sometimes it is not just all on the teenager, but also it
may be the parents for not having good contact with their child. Not only is the lack of parental support a problem, but also can also be a problem
psychologically for the mother. Depression can be present in both, having an abortion or continuing with the pregnancy. It is surprising that depression
can occur after pregnancy, but this is referred to "baby blues". This is when the mother is going through many stages mentally, such as anxiety and a lot
of anguish.
To continue, the decisions we chose to do make a huge impact in our lives. The traumatic event of taking a life away from earth is very hard.
According to "Teens Face More Mental Health Risks From Abortion Than From Bearing an Unplanned Pregnancy", by the Elliot Institute, they state
that teen mothers who do decide to abort and have an extreme growth in their psychological matter, have a higher risk to be settled in a mental health
hospital compared to any other teenager. Teen mothers are not mentally prepared because their brains are not fully developed, which is why they go
through an emotional trauma when they

Why Is Teen Abortion A Controversial Issue
Teen abortion is a very very controversial subject in the US. Many people don't like to talk about it. The whole event deals with 3 points. These
include responsibility, gender of the baby, and much more. These apply all around the world. Meaning that most of these don't apply to the US.
The most common reason for abortion has to do with the lack of responsibility in the teen. It's usually the parent who tells the teen that they don't
have the responsibility of do it, leading to aborting. The teen most likely will not have a job due to being 15 to 17. This means that the parent can't
buy the necessities for the baby. Things like milk and baby food are off limits. They may also live with their mother or other guardian. The baby may

How Does Abortion Affect Teens
Topic: Effects of Abortion for teens in the United States of America
1.Article: Incidence and Services, 2005, Rachel K. Jones, Mia R.S. Zolna, Stanley K. Henshaw, Lawrence B. Finer. (Volume 40, Number 1, 2008)
a)Abortions is one of the most frequent medical procedures undergone by women aged 15–44 in the United States, partly because of the unintended
pregnancy.
пѓ Abortions are quite common among the nation especially between the ages of 15–44 mostly to non–planned pregnancies. This shows that it is
quite a norm for unplanned pregnancies to happen nowadays in society.
b)11% of actions in abortion clinics and 22% in other clinics were early medication abortions. Medication abortions accounted for roughly half abortions
in the nonhospital facilities with the fewest caseloads.
пѓ People prefer medication abortion over surgical abortion or the vacuuming of the foetus. This is because through medication abortion, it is not as
noticeable and as painful compared to surgical abortion.
c)Somewhat more than one in five pregnancies end in abortion, signifying that unnecessary pregnancy is still too common in the United States.
пѓ It sad to say that 1/5 pregnancies ends in abortion. This shows how safe sex or sex after marriage is not taken seriously as it is supposed to be.

Should Teens Have The Right To Have Abortion?
Approximately there are 1 million teenagers in America that become pregnant each year. Of those teenage pregnancies 78% are unintended according
to The National Abortion Federation. One in every four women will be sexually assaulted during her lifetime. There are 683,000 American woman
ages 15–19 who are forcibly raped each year. Of the 683,000 raped 32,000 become pregnant each year in the U.S. For teenager's pregnancy could
possibly mean your life will come to a complete stop because you now have a child to take care of. I believe a woman who is rapped has the right to
have an abortion because the child could be a continuous reminder of the horrible event. Although some may say no one should have an abortion
because it's like killing a human they probably haven't experienced the horrifying event of being rapped. Rapped can scare anyone physically and
emotionally. Although some might think a child is a blessing from God, in this case it would be the worst thing anyone could experience. Being rapped
will affect your life both physical and emotional. Abortion isn't something you should do because you don't want a baby, you...show more content...

Should Teens Be Able To Have Abortion?
Teens should be able to have abortions whether others agree or not. Allowing young women to seek a legal or illegal abortion without notice to their
chief advisors and caretakers, their parents, appears on the surface to be a wholesale assault on the core meaning of family support. (Beverly Ballaro)
Leaving parents out the loop in abortions can only contribute to family dysfunction. The unfortunate fact is that for many women who unintentionally
get pregnant at an early age, parental abdication of the role of counselor has played a role. For a whole range of reasons including social challenges,
these parents have given up their roles, leaving their children to cope themselves and sometimes a young woman coping strategy is to engage in a
premarital sexual relationship that has no hope of leading to stable family structure.(Martin Daniel)...show more content...

Many states have enacted, or are considering, laws that restrict teenagers' access to abortion by requiring parental involvement in the abortion decision.
Such laws include:

Teen Pregnancy and Abortion
Teenage pregnancy significantly impacts an adolescent's education, as well as the goals they have set for themselves. Parental involvement is
sometimes overlooked by the teen while deciding if abortion is the right choice. Most teenagers have access to obtain an abortion without their parents'
permission because some states consider a pregnant teen an adult. When states consider a pregnant adolescent an adult, the teen has the authority to
make their own decisions. One reason why abortion is a chosen procedure by young adults is to continue their education and receive an ideal career in
the future. Teens have a difficult time caring for themselves while attending school, less lone adding a child to the scenario. They realize that they are

Laws have been made to decide if a teen has acquired a proper maturity level to bypass the involvement of parents. Adolescents go through with an
abortion in order to finish their education and achieve a career.
When teenagers learn they are pregnant, their dreams become crushed. This is why some minors chose to abort a baby and continue to accomplish
their goals in life. According to Medoff, "Teen mothers are less likely to complete their education, to be employed, to have high occupational
attainment, to earn high wages and they are more likely to be in poverty and receive welfare assistance (Hoffman 2006)" (Medoff 177–178). Pregnancy
significantly impacts a minor's life by postponing all of the goals they have set for themselves. A baby requires all of the mother's attention for proper
nurturing. Education becomes challenging for a teen to progress in due to balancing their time with school and a baby.
Most pregnant schoolgirls leave mainstream schooling and do not return after the birth of their child. According to the girls interviewed this is often
the case because they do not receive extra help and support, they are bullied or made fun of–and they cannot cope with both the baby and school once
they have given birth. (Lall 226)
Caring for a baby requires the parent to put forth one hundred percent effort. Some teens that can balance the work load feel as if they will be looked
upon differently and in a more negative aspect if they

So why do they occur so often? They occur because people realize that they do not want to have a child for a number of different reasons from an
inability to afford one to the potential change it causes to the female body. Nonetheless, the decision is not made because of the fear of the mother
losing her life or any of the predominant explanations for the occurrence of abortions. At the root of the occurrence of so many abortions is the
inability of individuals in society to take responsibility for their actions. Bearing children is the natural result of sexual intercourse under favorable
conditions, it is not forced upon women by the United States government. I am forced to wonder: If a woman has a history of bad decisions which
cause her an unwanted pregnancy, why should our society trust her to take the welfare of the child into account and trust her not make the abortion

reasons why abortion is an abhorrent murder of a baby. When a teenager gets pregnant there young bodies open up to a lot of diseases. They can

Teenage Abortion In The United States

  • 1. Teenage Abortion In The United States Teen Abortion Teen abortion is something that everyone should take seriously. One in four teens that are pregnant have an abortion. That means that every 25% of teen pregnancies come to an end. Out of all the different ages of abortion teens make up 18% of the 100%. 82% of all teen pregnancies are accidental. Juggling school and a baby can be very hard on the mother and her family. About one half of all teen mothers graduate high school and get their diploma. Most of the time mothers drop out just to take care of their baby (choicespregnancy). On a good note, the U.S teen pregnancy, birth and abortion rates have gone done significantly and they are the lowest they have been in four decades. From 2008 to 2011 there has been a 23% decline ...show more content... The killing of a innocent human being is wrong and this action should not take place. They also believe that life begins at conception so, even if the baby is not born yet, it is still a human being and people need to take this into consideration. Fetuses feel pain during the abortion process. Maureen Condic, PhD, Associate Professor of Neurobiology and Anatomy and Adjunct Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine, explains that the "most primitive response to pain, the spinal reflex," is developed by eight weeks gestation, and adds that "There is universal agreement that pain is detected by the fetus in the first trimester." • 2. Teenage Abortion Essays Teenage Women, Abortion and Law Abortion has always been a very controversial issue. This can be due to the fact that people have different beliefs that are emphasized by their own religion and set of moral values. Many people believe that abortion is wrong, but they believe that is it only wrong under certain circumstances. This could be true, but is it more right to kill for a specific reason than to just do it because you made an irresponsible decision? Because of the wide spectrum of religion and various moral beliefs, there will never be a right or wrong answer to abortion. Fact: Each year, one million American teenagers become pregnant, and 85% of these pregnancies are unintended. Four in every five Americans begin having...show more content... Some states allow a professional counseling instead of parental involvement. Fact: Restrictive abortion laws may worsen family communication rather than promote it. Abortion providers encourage teenagers to tell a parent or another important family member about their plans, and most teens do. Even without state laws, one or both parents of 61% of minors know about their daughters' abortions. The younger the teen, the higher the likelihood that she has told her mother about the situation. Those young women who do not or cannot tell their parents, however, often have important reasons such as a family history of alcoholism, emotional or physical abuse, or incest. To involve such parents could invite further abuse of the teenager and other family members. New slide Rather than tell their parents – for whatever reason – some teenagers resort to unsafe, illegal abortions or try to perform the abortion themselves. In doing so, they risk serious injury and death, or in some cases, criminal charges. Fact: Restrictive laws endanger teens' health by inhibiting them from seeking safe medical care early in pregnancy. • 3. Misconceptions: Unsafe Abortion Among Teenagers Unsafe abortion among teenagers is one of the major concerns within the health care sector that needs to be addressed. Several stakeholders have recently shared their findings revealing that induce abortion accounts for a high proportion of deaths with many teenagers reporting the largest proportion of admission related to abortion complications in the US according to (UNFPA, 2010). Background. Several research findings indicate that increased rates of death related to abortion complication are as a result of unintended pregnancy, especially among teenagers. According to the United Nations Population Fund annual reports, a total of 6.8 million teen pregnancies occur annually across the world. Among these pregnancies one in five is unplanned therefore half of the unplanned pregnancy end up as induced abortion .research further reveal that there are a lot of misconception among young people about contraceptive (UNFPA ,2010). Several circumstances limit accessibility and use of contraceptives these includes economic status among other important factors. According to the recent research findings, urban teenagers are more likely to have good knowledge and use contraceptive compared to teenagers who live in the rural areas. Some of the barriers that hinder teenagers from accessing family planning services are misconceptions and also their...show more content... Ironically some section of this law makes it illegal to provide contraceptive advice especially for girls below 16 years. Such laws limit the efforts of educating girls on preventing unintended pregnancies. In an attempt to address this concern, under the public health service Act, the Title X family planning program was initiated, this is the only federal program initiated to provide family planning services to the general population (Napili, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Teen Abortion Facts Teenage girls are more likely to get an abortion. There has been approximately 750,000 teen pregnancies that occur each year. The teens are unmarried and they think that it would be easier to get an abortion as to have a child. ( Facts & statistics about Teen abortions). If you are under the age of 18 your state may require you to have one or both of your parents to give you permission to have the abortion, or be told your decision prior to the abortion.(abortion information.). Girls that tend to get pregnant are the ones that don't think they will. Then they get stuck having to make a drastic decision, either keeping the child or getting rid of it. • 5. Essay about Adolescent Abortion Adolescent Abortion Less then twenty–five years ago, any women who elected to terminate her pregnancy usually had to resort to illegal, unsanitary, and unsafe means. Abortion was frequently considered a criminal offense committed by the woman and the physician performing the procedure. The Supreme Court cases leading to the legalization of abortion began in 1963 with Griswold v. Connecticut. The court invalidated a Connecticut statute that made possession and use of contraceptives by married couples a criminal offense. The case of Griswold was later expanded to encompass the woman's right not only to prevent but also to terminate her pregnancy. In the case of Roe v....show more content... The chart that I included on the following page lists the number and distribution of legal abortions, abortion rates per 1,000 women, and percentage of pregnancies terminated by abortion, by age group from 1973 to 1981. (Melton 1986:43) The number of teenage abortions has risen since the Supreme Court decision in 1973, but not as rapidly as the number of abortions to other woman of childbearing age. From 1973 to 1981, the number of abortions to women aged 20–44 went from744,620 to 1,577,340 a rise of 112%. In contrast, the number of abortions to teenagers increased from 244,570 a rise of 84%. (Melton 1986:45) The increase in number of abortions has been greater for older teenagers. Between the ages 15–19, the number of abortions went from 232,440 in 1973 to 433,330 in 1981, an increase of 86%. Below age 15, the increase was 31%, from 11,630 to 15,240. (Melton 1986:45) Teenagers between 18 and 19 years of age have the highest demand for abortion services for women of any age, at 61.8 per 1,000 in 1981. For teenagers aged 15–17 years, the rate was 30.1%. For teenagers below age 15 it was 8.6. (Melton 1986:60) The rise in teenage abortion rates has been greater than that for women of childbearing age overall. Between 1973 and 1981, abortion rates for teenagers between 15 and 19 years went from 22.8 to 43.3 an increase of 90%. For teenagers below 15, the increase was 54%, from 5.6 to 8.6. • 6. The idea of parental consent when comes to teens getting abortions, is a war of permission vs. freedom choice. The argument of whether teenage girls require parental consent to obtain an abortion, has been around for a while. Some will disagree but due to the fact that it is her body, it was her mistake, it is her life, and that the parents may not agree to the abortion the child should not require parental consent to abort. If a young woman becomes pregnant and she feels she is not for motherhood, who has the right to tell her no. It is her that is affected by the decision and as humans we have the right to determine the course of our own lives. Many states require parental consent to perform an abortion on a minor child, Planned parenthood–ВЁ Some states require that you have permission from a parent or older family member. The requirement of these states puts teens seeking to abort in a difficult place, teens go to extreme to avoid the shame and embarrassment of having to reveal their pregnancy they will even try to cross state lines. When the parents do find out and deny the teen permission to abort, the teen will even take their parents to court to proceed with the abortion, Planned Parenthood–ВЁ A judge may be able to excuse you from having to tell your parents or get their permission.ВЁ. • 7. Essay on Teenage Abortion The subject of teenage abortion, is an emotionally charged one. The two major groups are completely opposite in their beliefs. Rather than discuss the emotional views of those groups, I have chosen to research, write, and conclude based on factual material, concerning teenage abortion. A discussion of abortion as a definition is explained medically, and in a small part the emotional effects on theparticipant. I have chosen to report in a factual not an emotional manner. The direct definition of abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by loss or destruction of the fetus before birth. ("Abortion") There are two types of abortion, spontaneous and induced. (Meier,46) For many teens, having an abortion is a way to get on with their lives. A chance to forget the past and create a pathway to the future. (Karlse,44) The entire concept of abortion may cause an abundance of internal conflict but, for an adolescent this procedure may very well be the best alternative. For a countless number of pregnant teenagers, the notion of having an abortion is not brought on by themselves. Although the decision is a difficult one on its own parents and boyfriends, most likely, will not help to make the process any easier. (Meier,46) The pressure from others put on pregnant adolescents could force them into making serious decisions of having abortions, with little or no thought what so ever. Abortions might also be chosen to hide the pregnancy from the people who care most. The procedure, in many cases, is completed before either parent of the girl is informed. (Meier,46) Having an abortion is a common procedure in this day and age however, some risks are involved, though the majority can be avoided. Abortion is expensive, if it is unaffordable, many girls may result to having it performed illegally. (Meier,49) Through the 1980's forty to sixty Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Argumentative Essay On Teen Abortion Briana Nelson Hannah Homes Eng.1101 10 December 2017 Teen Abortions aren't Always a Bad Thing Imagine it is late at night, and you are walking home from a friend's house. It's very dark and you can't really see what's going on until all of a sudden, this random man grabs you and throws you into the back of his car. That same night this man rapes and sexually abuses you. Later on, you find out that you are pregnant by this man and you don't want to keep it, but everyone around you is telling you that you shouldn't get an abortion because you would then be labeled as killing your child. Now you are stuck debating whether or not you want to give birth to a baby that wouldn't be here if you weren't raped that night you were walking home from your friend's house. One of the biggest dilemmas in today's time is whether or not teen abortions should be legal. Every year, more than 50% of babies that are conceived, come into the world unwanted (Guttmacher). Whether it is from the mother being raped, abused, not wanting their parents to find out, not wanting everyone to know that they had sex, or even just the thought of the fact that she is a child raising a child. Therefore, all teens should be allowed to have an abortion for many different reasons without being told they are murdering their child. Abortions became a political debate after the court case of Roe v Wade legalized abortions in 1973. In the 1973 case ofRoe v. Wade, the U.S Supreme court ruled that the woman has Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Facts About Teenage Abortion I was only 16. I stayed with my sister in the city where the clinic was, 45 minutes away from where I lived, so my dad wouldn't know. I was nervous. It all took about a week. I had an attachment to this thing you couldn't even physically hold. I'd think about what kind of amazing life a kid deserves and feel upset I wouldn't be able to provide that. –Frances, 18 (Winter, 11) Having an abortion is like a car crash, its sudden for the baby, it can affect your whole life, and the life the baby doesn't get to live. Unborn babies are considered human beings by the U.S government. The federal Unborn Victims of Violence act was put in place to protect unborn children from murder and assault. Abortion is happening all around us so often. Teens and young adults are constantly having "fun," but as they do they put aside what they know can happen thinking, "it won't happen to me." 1 million teens get pregnant each year, 78% are unintended and 35% get an abortion rather than keeping the baby. He stated that when abortion is performed on a 12–week old fetus, "We see in an ultrasound image the child's mouth open in a silent scream... Therefore, you can look at it how abortion greatly affects the economy. "A baby born today is an American worker in the future" said Shaw. Those babies could've been the ones who had grown up to be experts in the medical or business fields, which would do no harm. • 10. Negative Effects Of Teenage Abortion Erika Cid Del Prado Chenxia Zhu College Writing 1 10/27/17 What are the effects of Teenage Abortion? At a young age, we do not have much say on what we want. A teen mother has part of the saying on the decision she wants to take. She does not only worry about how her decisions will influence her life, but as well as her child. Teenagers always take on their decision making without understanding the effects on them and their lives. About a quarter of all teenage pregnancies in the U.S. end inabortion. Teenage abortion is increasing a lot because teenage mother's fear of not meeting their families standard and not being able to excel in their education. Also, they are not mentally prepared to have a child because they are a child...show more content... These negative impacts do not just affect one life, but as well as the mother's family. Many parents will alway say that they have put so much for their children and their children are under pressure of just trying to make their parents proud. Sometimes it is not just all on the teenager, but also it may be the parents for not having good contact with their child. Not only is the lack of parental support a problem, but also can also be a problem psychologically for the mother. Depression can be present in both, having an abortion or continuing with the pregnancy. It is surprising that depression can occur after pregnancy, but this is referred to "baby blues". This is when the mother is going through many stages mentally, such as anxiety and a lot of anguish. To continue, the decisions we chose to do make a huge impact in our lives. The traumatic event of taking a life away from earth is very hard. According to "Teens Face More Mental Health Risks From Abortion Than From Bearing an Unplanned Pregnancy", by the Elliot Institute, they state that teen mothers who do decide to abort and have an extreme growth in their psychological matter, have a higher risk to be settled in a mental health hospital compared to any other teenager. Teen mothers are not mentally prepared because their brains are not fully developed, which is why they go through an emotional trauma when they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Why Is Teen Abortion A Controversial Issue Teen abortion is a very very controversial subject in the US. Many people don't like to talk about it. The whole event deals with 3 points. Allowing young women to seek a legal or illegal abortion without notice to their chief advisors and caretakers, their parents, appears on the surface to be a wholesale assault on the core meaning of family support. Such laws include: В„X Parental notification laws that require medical personnel to notify a minor's parent(s) of her intention to obtain an abortion; В„X Parental consent laws that require medical personnel to obtain written permission from the parent(s) before performing an abortion; В„X Almost all of the parental notification and consent laws have judicial bypass options that allow a teen who feels she cannot involve her parent(s) to get a judge's permission to proceed with her abortion. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
