Leeds Elementary chorus spreads Christmas cheer
By Jessica Iannetta jiannetta@cecilwhig.com Dec 16, 2016
NORTH EAST — Leeds Elementary School students spread holiday cheer around the county on Thursday afternoon as part of their annual chorus trip.
About 40 fourth and fifth graders traveled to the George Washington Carver Education Leadership Center, which houses the Cecil County Public
Schools administration offices, and then to the Sunny Acres Assisted Living Facility in North East.
Under the direction of the school’s music teacher, William Moon, the choir performed a variety of classic holiday songs, including “Rockin’ Around the
Christmas Tree,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Silent Night,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Christmas Time is Here.”
Tina Norton, manager at Sunny Acres, said she was happy to have the chorus visit the 15-person facility off Lums Road and that the residents enjoy
seeing students. A few weeks ago, the facility received a visit from members of a local Boy Scout troop, who helped trim the tree and threw a holiday
party for the residents, she noted.
So when Moon contacted Sunny Acres about having his chorus come by, Norton quickly agreed.
“I knew the residents would like it,” she said. “It brightened their day.”

Acres Assisted Living Facility.
Many of the residents who gathered in the facility’s living room to hear the students sang along to the familiar songs themselves and clapped for the
students at the end of their performance. The experience was a good one for the students who participated as well.
“I really liked doing it because it’s the holidays and it’s nice to spread joy to other people,” said Victoria Heath, a fourth-grade member of the chorus.
Cameron Mink, a fourth-grader at the school, also said she enjoyed the experience and that her favorite song to sing is “Rudolph the Red-Nosed
Reindeer.”
“I liked singing and I think it’s really cool to sing to older people and bring joy to them,” Mink said.
