Hazelwood teacher Christine Banks to play with Stevie Wonder at the Scottrade
Center
Florissant, MO – Christine Banks, Hazelwood School District orchestra teacher and
freelance musician, has been invited to play with Stevie Wonder on October 25 at the
Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
“I am super excited to play with Stevie Wonder because I grew up listening to his
music and I just love how he still sounds fresh after all of these years,” said Banks.
“Combining my teaching job with my freelance job is wonderful, you could even say it’s the
best of both worlds.”
Banks got her start in music by playing the violin in fourth grade. She then switched
to the viola in seventh grade. During high school, she started taking private lessons which
led to her becoming a freelance musician during her college years.
“I started freelancing when I was in college. I joined the union and have been a union
musician since. I have never stopped freelancing.”
Through her freelance connections Banks has been able to play with other famous
musicians such as, Rod Stewart, Moody Blues, Smokey Robinson, Chad Akins, Chicago, and
Johnny Matthis among others. She has also toured with the National Production of Miss
Saigon, and has played with orchestras in the U.S. and Europe that accompanied Josh Bell,
Issac Stern, Yo-Yo Ma, and many other well-known classical soloists.
You can find Banks performing with Stevie Wonder at the Scottrade Center on
Sunday, October 25 at 8 p.m.
