Willi Mendelsohn interned at the Center for Jewish Art from October 2015 to January 2016. During her internship, she worked on documenting paintings by Abel Pann and Michael Sgan-Cohen for their digital iconography database, the Bezalel Narkiss Index of Jewish Art. She also assisted with research on ceremonial objects and helped edit research papers. Recommendation for Ms. Willi Mendelsohn
It is our pleasure to write this recommendation letter on behalf of Ms. Willi Mendelsohn.
The Center for Jewish Art at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem had the pleasure of having
Willi Mendelsohn as an intern from October 2015 to January 2016. During this period she worked
in our Department of Modern Art and her assignment was connected to the Bezalel Narkiss Index
of Jewish Art – the largest digital iconographical database of Jewish art. Willi worked mainly
with the documentation of the paintings of Abel Pann and Michael Sgan-Cohen. This work is
very challenging because it requires both attention to detail and an ability to see the big picture.
Her contribution to the development of the Index was very significant. She was very precise and
also brought a great deal of knowledge to her activity. In addition, Willi assisted in the work of
the Department of Ceremonial Objects and her intelligence enabled her to cover a large quantity
of research material. Finally, Willi also helped also with editing of research papers written by the
CJA staff and significantly improved the CJA’s Facebook.
Willi has an outgoing personality which quickly made her a part of the Center’s team. We wish
she could have stayed with us. Her ability to delve in new material and tasks was a very big asset
for us. She showed responsibility, initiative and accuracy in her work. She is an original thinker
and knows how to focus on central questions and issues. She also knows how to read critically.
