13. LEARNING INTENT
• Students will select and research a contemporary artist and create a scrapbook about his/her life, artwork,
and artistic style.
• Students will analyze and explain the distortion, colors, scale, and content found in artwork of the artist
they are researching.
• Students will describe how each of the elements are used to express mood in an image they select.
• Students will analyze and write about the media of an artist and explain how the choices of materials
affected the artwork.
• Students will analyze the work and style of an artist and explain how the social, economic, and political
influences are reflected in the artwork.
• Student will research and explain the intentions of the artist they have selected.
• Students will analyze and write about the effects of society on the interpretations and messages in artwork
they have selected.
14. REQUIREMENTS
• Each student will create a scrapbook about the artist they have selected (1950-present).
• Requirements:

8” x 8” (20 x 20 cm) page minimum
• Quality construction, make it sturdy
• Gut and glue neatly, 90* angles and straight cuts
• Visually pleasing (but not too busy, remember I am old and boring)
• Limit your colors to 2-3 colors used throughout
• Creative- design pages in the style of your artist
• READABLE!!! Make sure your font fits with your artist and can be read easily

ADVANCED ART STANDARD:
• Analyze and discuss complex ideas, such as distortion, color theory, arbitrary color, scale, expressive content, and real versus virtual in
works of art.
• Describe the use of the elements of art to express mood in one or more of their works of art.
• Analyze the works of a well-known artist as to the art media selected and the effect of that selection on the artist's style.
• Identify contemporary styles and discuss the diverse social, economic, and political developments reflected in the works of art examined.
• Identify contemporary artists worldwide who have achieved regional, national, or international recognition and discuss ways in which
their work reflects, plays a role in, and influences present-day culture.
• Identify the intentions of artists creating contemporary works of art and explore the implications of those intentions.
• Analyze and articulate how society influences the interpretation and message of a work of art.
• Compare and contrast works of art, probing beyond the obvious and identifying psychological content found in the symbols and images.
17. JUDGING A BOOK BY ITS COVER…
• Covers (10 points): Design and create covers that reflect the style of your
artist’s work. Choose materials, colors, and design to match the type of
work he/she creates and the images that will be within the book pages.
The cover is the first impression your book makes its reader so plan
carefully and create distinct covers.
