The Colosseum: Potentially the most famous landmark in Rome, the Colosseum is the former home to
Roman gladiators and the largest amphitheatre of the Roman Empire. The building was, and still is today, a
show in itself.
Trevi Fountain: A legend is told that if visitors throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, they are ensured a return
to Rome. The fountain is world famous and a popular spot for romantic photos.
Spanish Steps: The Spanish Steps climb a steep slope between the Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinità dei
Monti, dominated by the Trinità dei Monti church at the top.
Roman Forum: The Roman Forum was the central area of the city around which Ancient Rome was
developed and is now the ruins of some of the most important government buildings of ancient times.
Pantheon: The most preserved and influential building of Ancient Rome, the Pantheon is dedicated to the
worship of every god.

Rome enjoys a Mediterranean climate, which is true of most of Italy. The
temperature is usually mild the whole year round with heat rising during the
months of July and August.
Summer lasts from June to early September is characterised by stifling heat and
relentless sunshine. Rainfall very rarely falls during the summer months, so the
humidity in the city can rise.
Autumn is the wettest season with more than 120mm of rainfall. Rainfalls, seldom
heavy, are usually concentrated in the months of November and February. Night
time temperatures become cooler with an average low of 7°C in November.
January is the coldest month of the year when temperatures can drop below 2°C
but as the winter season progresses the level of sunshine gradually increases.

During the warm and humid summer months, shorts and t-shirts are a commonly worn
to keep visitors cooler.
A sunhat, sunglasses and sun cream are advised to be worn during the hot summer
days.
In the winter months, it is cooler so make sure you bring layers and a jacket for walking
around. It is more prone to rain in this season wear comfortable, waterproof shoes and
remember to bring an umbrella!
Rome has majority cobble streets so make sure you footwear is comfortable and
practical.
The Vatican has a dress code which is enforced. Shoulders, knees, midriffs and
cleavage cannot be exposed so out of respect it is expected that these areas be
covered up to enter.
