Dear Admissions Tutor,
Re: Mohammad Asif Khan – Applicant for a place in your PhD Programme
I have been asked by Mr. Khan to provide you with a reference in support of his application for a place
in your PhD Programme.
I have known Mr. Khan since September 2013 when he joined the MSc in Development Economics and
Policy at Manchester. I taught him in two of his courses, Poverty and Development and Economic
Development.
Mr. Khan impressed me as a very committed and conscientious student. He actively prepared for and
participated in class and was punctual in delivering his assignments. He often stayed on after class to
pursue supplementary questions and related issues. His grades in the courses I taught him suggest he
will get a solid merit.
He is very committed to pursue his interest at PhD level. He is very interested to develop as a researcher
and eventually as an academic. He has a lively interest in all aspects of economic development, but
especially nutrition and migration.
He makes a good contribution to the student community, as his cv shows, and has some experience as a
research assistant in his University in New Delhi.
I encourage you to give your full consideration to his application.
