The document discusses a modular house design assignment for architecture students. It introduces principles of proportion, harmony, balance, and other elements of design. Students are given 50 cubes measuring 3.6 x 3.6 x 3.6 meters and asked to arrange them into an abstract residential form incorporating basic spaces like a living room, kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. At least 25 cubes must be used. The cubes can be opaque or transparent. The goal is to apply architectural aesthetics principles to the cube composition while accommodating the necessary interior functions. Examples of student cube house designs and principles of modular design, openings, and unfolding platonic solids are also presented.

48. MODULAR HOUSE: FUNCTION FOLLOWS FORM!
This project aims at developing the students’ vision in the field of form and space
relation.
To achieve this objective, the students will be given an assignment that combines
form,
module and function. This should introduce the students to architecture from its
abstract
and artistic aspects, and its relation with the functions that lies within. The
assignment is
designed to expand and give freedom to the students to design their wildest
thoughts.

space
requirements, with the freedom of choice the number of levels. The following points
should
be noted:
- You are not required to use all the 50 cubes into your design, but a minimum of 25
cubes should be used.
- The cubes used may be opaque or transparent based on your design concept.
- The form should be designed based on the architectural aesthetics principles while
keeping in mind the form of the spaces lying within.
