Requirements
→ Fellow must be in possession of a doctoral degree; or equivalent to 4 years’
full time research experience
→ Fellow to apply to host institution in a different country, either:
•
INCOMING: there are two types of incoming fellowship schemes:
1.
From EU Member State or Associated Country to another EU
Member State or Associated Country. Researchers from any
nationality can apply.
2.
From a Third Country to an EU Member State or Associated
Country. Only non-EU Member State or Associated Country
nationals can apply.
4. Requirements
• OUTGOING: from EU Member State or Associated Country to a Third
Country (preferably with a return phase to a EU MS or AC). Only EU
Member State or Associated Country nationals can apply.
• REINTEGRATION for Member State or Associated Country nationals
that have carried out research in a Third Country for at least 3 years.
Resources
→ 40% of salary and bench fee plus annual travel stipend are provided by
WHRI-Academy
→ Remaining funding (60%) is granted by any other funding (local, national,
Research Council funds, collaboration with industry, etc. excluding EU
grants) the Host institution holds

Fellow freely chooses a research topic within the Life
Science domain, upon agreement with the host
supervisor
Fellow submits application, including personal statement
and research proposal
Application is judged by three experts and awarded by
the evaluation panel
6. Call launch / Expression of Interest
• Call opens
3 months
• Fellow downloads “Expression of interest” (EoI) form and
send it to the investigator of the chosen host organization
Approval EiO /Commitment host
• Host approves idea (and if not a member already then
enrols as Host in WHRI-Academy)
• Host commits to funding
Full proposal project
• Fellow and Host prepares application
• Fellow submits application

and additional Hosts can be added if required
Hosts will guarantee 60% of funding for the fellowship
and provide appropriate regular reports
Mentoring and personal development opportunities must

Full-time equivalent research experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle him or her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited or seconded, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is or was ever envisaged.
