- 1. Successful Expansion of Periotheus
In order to ecologically and economically use power station complexes, VisoTech has expanded Periotheus Suite to include power plant management. This function allows a
complete power station complex to be structurally reproduced and the data obtained to be used fully automatically. The power plant management reproduces all power stations
- whether renewable or thermal - with a high degree of detail. Power stations can be depicted to any level of detail and both availabilities and the production can be aggre-
gated. This data can immediately be used as the basis for additional optimisation calculations thanks to the direct connection to our partner decisiontrees optimisation model.

Periotheus Suite‘s power plant management is directed at all types of power station ope-
rator. Possible use cases range from completely reproducing the power station portfolio to
presenting relevant data, such as available capacity, maintenance rates, operating hours
and more, in a clear structure.
Virtual and physical power stations, as well as holdings, can be arranged and administered
in a hierarchy down to machine, block and turbine level. This allows a clear overview of the
availability, actual and planned data, gauge levels and much more.
Power plant management allows the values from various producers to be aggregated. Ad-
ditionally, both the provided and requested control energy input from machines can be
tracked. For viewing a power station portfolio in the long term, important influencing para-
meters can be included, for example revision periods as well as allowed operating hours.
In connection with our partner decision trees you can optimise the marketing of generation
portfolios in various markets (spot, intraday & control energy). At the same time the gene-
ration portfolios can flexibly be composed of thermal, hydroelectric, wind or virtual power
plants. The results are reassigned to the planned generation from the power station in con-
nection with an optimisation run. Subsequently commercial transactions and nominations
can be arranged on this basis.

Wind power stations and photovoltaic systems:
EAllows solar power stations and individual wind turbines to be reproduced
and several turbines to be aggregated into wind farms. It allows the generation
price to be hedged on the futures market and offers an overview of operating
hours for the individual machines, as well as the planned inspection times,
allowing for more long term planning and marketing
Pumped storage power station:
Allows all parameters for a pumped storage power station to be reproduced
(turbines, pumps, gauge levels, upper and lower reservoir levels) and there-
fore is used as a basis for operating the power station input as efficiently as
possible.
Thermal power station:
Allows efficiency parameters to be included and the output of power and
district heating to be determined when operating a natural gas or coal power
station. Both subsequent measures or reservations for congestion management
and inspection times can be monitored based on this information.
Virtual power station:
The flexible combination and aggregation of machines also allow physically
separate machines to be depicted as one virtual producer and its total produc-
tion to be recorded and, if necessary, marketed.
The above graphic visualises a possible application for the Periotheus Suite‘s new power station function. In order to maximise the profit from marketing the generation portfo-
lio, VisoTech‘s EPEX AutoTrader in turn lends itself to automating the continuous intraday trading for power on EPEX SPOT. Open positions from the power station optimisation
can be closed independently on the exchange using the AutoTrader with pre-defined prices and quantity limits from the system.
Simple Integration and Proven in Operation
Optimal integration into existing management systems (e.g. Periotheus schedule management) is also included, as is the possibility of integrating the system into control and
optimisation systems specific to the company. With the AutoTrader and EPEX SPOT interface, VisoTech offers ideal tools to carry out short term marketing of available genera-
tion capacity to complement the power station management.
Periotheus power station management was developed in close cooperation with a leading Austrian electricity supplier and therefore guarantees practical and user-friendly
usability.
