2. INTRODUCTION
1. Self Inflating tyres are designed to maintain
constant tyre pressure at a proper level.
2. Self inflating tyres are designed more for slow
leaks and for optimizing vehicle performance
and safety.
3. Self inflating tyres allow a vehicle to adjust
the current terrain for ideal performance and
safety in those conditions.
4. Self inflating tyre system helps in re-inflation
of tyres to proper pressure level.

3. Disadvantages of improper tyre
pressure
3
• If tyre pressure is too low it causes more friction between
the tyre and road. This friction causes overheating which
results in pace damage in tyre.
• If tyre pressure is too high, less of the tyre touches the
ground. As a consequence car will bounce around the
road and we feel unwanted vibrations.
• Low tyre pressure decreases the performance/efficiency
or mileage of the vehicle.
• Improper tyre pressure cause lots of driving discomforts.

9. Functions of CTIS(Central Tyre
Inflating System)
• CTIS is most commonly used self-inflating
tyre system.
• It is use to improve performance of vehicles
on different surfaces for example on work
sites, agricultural fields etc.
• It is use to maintain tyre pressure under
slow leaks.

11. Peristaltic Self-inflating tyre
system(PSTIS)
The main function of this
SIT system is to maintain
constant tyre pressure in
times of emergency caused
by perforation(by nails,
screws, thorns etc.
It works on the principle of
peristaltic pump.

14. Limitations of Self-Inflating
tyre systems
1) Too many components
2) Costlier than the conventional tires
3) Heavier than general vehicle
4) Requires more maintenance

15. APPLICATIONS
1) At present self-inflating tyres are only
used for military vehicles but this
concept will become reality for all types
of automobiles soon.

16. Future concepts of Self-inflating
tyres
1) Self-inflating tyres for motorcycles and
bicycles
2) Heating/Cooling device to control pressures
3) Magnetically actuated tyre profile

17. CONCLUSION
The dynamically self inflating tyre system would be
capable of succeeding as a new product in the automotive
supplier industry. It specifically addresses the needs of the
consumers by maintaining appropriate tire pressure
conditions for reduced tire wear, increases fuel efficiency,
increases overall safety of vehicles.
Thus self inflating tyres help us in attaining certain helpful
criterions:
• It helps in the monitoring of tyre pressure constantly
• Thus it provides inflation or deflation of the tyre
• It helps in attaining better mileage
• It also helps in providing comfortable driving
