The Lighthouse Alicia Whitmore is the developmental director at The Lighthouse, a
charitable organization in central Kentucky that works with poor and underprivileged
youth. Data on donors and their contributions has been saved to an Access database.
Alicia wants you to create a report that displays the total contributions from each donor.
Complete the following:
1. Open the Lighthouse workbook located in the Excel11?Case1 folder included with your
Data Files, and then save the workbook as Lighthouse Donor Report in the location
specified by your instructor.
2. In the Documentation worksheet, enter your name and the date.
3. Directly import the contents of the Contacts and Contributions tables from the
Lighthouse Data Access database located in the Tutorial, ?Case1 folder. Do not use
Microsoft Query. Import the tables into Excel tables.
4. Name the worksheet containing the Excel table with the donor list Donors, and name
the worksheet containing the list of contributions Donations.
5. Change the properties of the Lighthouse Data connection to Lighthouse Donors and
Donations and enter the description Data retrieved from the Contacts and Contributions
2. tables In the Lighthouse Data.accdb file. Refresh the connection whenever the workbook
is reopened.
6. Open the data model using PowerPivot. Create a relationship from the Contributions
table to the Contacts table using ID as the common field.
7. In the Donor Report worksheet, in cell A3, insert a PivotTable report using the
PivotTable button located in the Tables group on the INSERT tab. In the Create PivotTable
dialog box, specify the Lighthouse Donors and Donations connections as the external
data source.
8. From the Contacts table, add the Last Name, First Name, Address, City, State, and
Postal Code to the ROWS section of the PivotTable in that order.
9. From the Contributions table, add the Date and Amount fields to the VALUES section of
the PivotTable in that order.
