Orpat creates a new generation of early risers
1. Orpat creates a new generation of early risers
A recent study carried out by Orpat on a group of students over two months to
ascertain their sleeping habits with and without an alarm clock helped in
throwing light on a new theory pertaining to alarm clocks. The batch was
divided between two groups, onegroup had to use an old-schoolalarm clock
to rise early while the other group had to rely on cell phones.
After a period of two months, it was discovered that the students belonging to
the former group experienced noticeable change in their lifestyle and overall
health as they would fall asleep naturally and faster. Also, the chances of
hitting the snoozebutton were lesser compared to the latter group.
On the other hand, students belonging to the second group continued being
the sameold selves. The alarm they set at night didn’t play quite an important
role as they weremore motivated to turn on the snoozethan to riseup.
Challenges:
Orpatgroup, the largest manufacturer of clocks in the world, after studying the
currentsleeping trends of the millennial and office-goers sensed trouble in the
changing lifestyle. Orpat strongly believed there was an urgent need to address
this problem and hence a solution had to be initiated.
The challenges foreseen by Orpatwere, long term dependence on mobile
phones for setting morning alarm was hindering overall sleeping pattern, alarm
notifications wereas good as absent due to the easy option of turning it off,
and eventual late bloomers.
There was an immediate need of resolving this issuewhich was/is increasing
at an alarming rate.
-New generation of late bloomers
-No seriousness in terms of alarm notifications
-Waking up with a headache or puffing around the eyes
-Irregular sleep
-Lack of productivity
-Less enthusiasm
2. Solution:
The solution to the problem was also provided by Orpat group by way of giving
away a range of Alarm clocks to a group of students. Orpat group wanted to
comparethe two different ways in which students responded to alarms. So, it
divided a batch into two equal groups of five students each. Onegroup was
given an old-schoolalarm clock while the other group depended on their cell
phones for setting an alarm.
Needless to say, students belonging to the firstgroup proved to be more
productiveover a period of two months as compared to their contemporaries
who relied on mobile phones. Itwas observed that the latter did not take
alarm clocks too seriously as they ended up spending too much time on social
media or other social networking platforms at night due to easy access to
phones. Whereas, the alarm clock group would be up and about early every
morning without feeling a hint of tiredness or headache.
-Replace mobile phones with alarm clocks
-switch off justbefore going to bed
-Be responsiblein setting alarm
-Don’tbe motivated to hit the snoozebutton
Result:
On the basis of this study, it can be said that Orpat alarm clocks created a
generation of early risers. Along with that, the ones who relied on alarm clocks
saw noticeable changes in their lifestyle and behaviouralpattern and do not
intent to going back to using mobile phones for setting alarms or reminders.
