3. Data Visualization
Data Visualisation is viewed by many disciplines as a modern
equivalent of visual communication. It involves the creation and
study of the visual representation of data, meaning "information that
has been abstracted in some schematic form, including attributes or
variables for the units of information"
1
4. Why do we need it?
● Overload of Data/ Data glut
● Helps understand Data better
● Provide context/purpose to Data
4
5. “ There were 5 exabytes of
information created from the
dawn of civilization to 2003, but
that information is created
every 2 days now
5
6. Why do we need it?
● Visualizing relative Data can throw up
interesting revelations, which otherwise
would have been unnoticed.
● It is easier to perceive data that is visual
6
8. The qualities of visual perception
8
● It can act as a landscape map when you are
swimming through data to find new
revelations.
● It can help us find/create patterns in
relative data.
10. How does it help?
● Perceptions can affect Data
● Visualization will provide a humane context
to Data
● Scalability of enormous data into small
visualizations
10
12. How does it help?
● Perceptions can affect Data
● Visualization will provide a humane context
to Data
● Scalability of enormous data into small
visualizations
12
13. How does it help?
● Visualization does not stop with Data. We
can visualize concepts and ideas too
● A visualized dataset has the power to
change people’s mind-set.
13
14. Data is the new soil.
Data is the new oil?
● It acts as a medium that gets worked on and out of which
interesting things emerge.
15. Relevance to managers
● Managers have to be on the constant
lookout for data and data visualization helps
them find the appropriate data and helps
them take crucial decisions.
