3. PROVISIONING & KEY ELEMENT
▸Wi-Fi provisioning is the process to add new Wi-Fi device to
Wi-Fi network
▸Process involves loading station with SSID & password of
Wi-Fi
▸Elements Required for provisioning:
A) Mobile application,
B) Wi-Fi device which is to be provisioned
C)Wi-Fi access point i.e. router
4. OPERATING MODE OF WI-FI DEVICES
▸Wi-Fi devices can work in three different modes
A) Station mode i.e. client mode
B) Access Point mode referred as Soft AP mode
C) Both Station mode & Access Point mode

7. ACCESS POINT MODE PROVISIONING
▸Device firmware enables Wi-Fi device to run in access point
mode
▸Mobile Application establishes TCP connection with Wi-Fi
Device running in access point mode
▸TCP is connection oriented protocol, this fact necessitates
direct connection of Mobile to Wi-Fi Device( being
Configured in AP Mode)
▸Ex. Alexa Wi-Fi provisioning is in AP mode & that's why
8. ALEXA WI-FI PROVISIONING
▸RESET Alexa, Wi-Fi enabled to run on Access Point mode
Usually name is ‘Amazon_ECxx’
▸Search for Alexa Device in Alexa App & connect with
Amazon_ECxx.
▸This is direct connection of mobile with device being
configured i.e. internally TCP connection
▸TCP connection is used to pass-on Wi-Fi( Router)

9. WI-FI PROVISIONING IN STA- STATION MODE
▸Wi-Fi device act as client, Firmware make sure device is in UDP listening
mode
▸Mobile need to connect with available Wi-Fi router
▸Once provisioning is triggered from Mobile Application broadcasts SSID &
Password( of same Wi-Fi router with which it is connected) in UDP
packets in regular interval as configured in mobile app. Therefore direct
connection with mobile is not required
▸UDP packet is sniffed by Wi-Fi device in STA mode
▸Wi-Fi device in STA mode decodes credential & tries connection with Wi-
Fi( Router)
▸Once Wi-Fi in STA mode is successful with connection is ACK with
Success event & obtained IP address.
10. ORIENT AERO SLIM, OAK REMOTE STEPS
▸Connect Mobile with available Wi-Fi routers
▸Trigger the provisioning in mobile application
▸Wi-Fi device STA mode must be powered-ON
▸Mobile application send UDP packet to Wi-Fi Device in STA mode
▸Wi-Fi in STA mode sniffs packet & attempts connection with Wi-Fi
Router
▸If Successful ACK Directly to Mobile App
▸Else retries
11. USER PERSPECTIVE OF WI-FI PROVISIONING
-STA MODE
▸Wi-Fi in STA mode Provisioning stands good from user
perspective since for user it is one click on mobile
application & rest is handled by mobile. Layman has ease in
provisioning
▸Changing the Wi-Fi network is easy in future
▸Offers possibility of meshing
▸Connection may take while & couple of attempts may be
required
