2. INTRODUCTION
Cell towers are generating the signals - more power is
required. To reduce the power consumption we use the concept i.e.,
femtocell .
A femtocell is a small cellular base station designed in
residential or small business environments.
Femto cells were originally called as access point base
stations.
Femtocells are most widely used in wideband code division
multiple access networks.
3. A femtocell is typically connected to a mobile operators
network via a standard broadband DSL or cable service.
Femtocell follows idle mode procedure – to save energy

5. Step 1: Femtocell is in IDLE mode, pilot power and
processing off
Step 2: Femtocell performs received power measurement
on macrocell uplink band
6. Step 3: Is active mobile detected close to the femtocell?
Step 4: If it is detected , Femtocell activates processing
and starts pilot transmission.
If not detected ,it goes back to Step 2
7. Step 5: Mobile is handed over from macro cell to
Femtocell
Step 6: Mobile is served by the Femtocell untill
the call expires
Step 7: Femtocell goes back to IDLE mode and
disables pilot and processing
8. Advantages:
By using femtocell IDLE Mode procedure we can reduce the
power consumption.
We can access the data very fast by using Femtocell.
