Carolina PRSSA: 2015-2016 Accomplishments
National Conference (Atlanta, GA – Nov. 6-10)
 Created budget and organized timeline to reach budget
 Organized and delegated tasks for outreach, which included a social media
campaign to promote our crowdfunding page
 Fundraised $3,800 in six weeks
 First group of UNC PRSSA students to attend National Conference
Bateman Competition
 Promoted and pitched Bateman Competition to PRSSA members at meetings
and over listserv
 Organized a team of five members to participate
 Selected team leader and organized check-in times with her to monitor progress
 School of Media and Journalism is turning the Bateman Competition into a
formal course that students will register for through the official UNC registration
system
 First group of UNC PRSSA students to participate in the Bateman Competition
Regional Conference (“Diversity in PR: Embracing Culture and Change” – Feb. 19-20,
UNC-Chapel Hill)
 Teamed up with Elon University to pitch UNC to PRSSA Regional Conference
chair as a strong host for regional conference
 One of nine universities in the country selected to host conference
 Expecting 100 attendees; already have 50 out-of-state registrants
 Communicated and worked with Elon PRSSA president to create budget,
timeline, and delegate tasks
 Handled all conference logistics: hotels, schedule, food, set-up, volunteers
 Reached out to speakers and created UNC outreach campaign
 Helped design website: elonuncprssa.weebly.com
 First time Carolina PRSSA bid and was chosen to host a Regional Conference
National Affiliation Status
 Working with Heelprint Communications, UNC’s student-run creative
communications agency, to complete application to become an officially
recognized PRSSA Nationally Affiliated Firm
Leadership Takeaways
In order to be an effective leader, it is imperative to communicate with your team and
delegate tasks. Everything has to be a team effort—not a single person can take credit
for something entirely on their own—but the leader sets the stage for how seriously the
other team members take their position and how passionate they are about it. If the
leader is not 100% dedicated and passionate, no one else will be.
