Sprīdītis is a small Latvian boy who lives with his mean stepmother. He goes on a quest to find happiness and complete tasks given to him by magical beings. He is given a magical pipe, stick, and ring to help him. His tasks include standing up to the sons of the Wind Mother, freeing children captured by a giant named Lutausis, and defeating the Devil to win the hand of Princess Zeltīte. After completing the tasks, Sprīdītis realizes that home is the happy land he was searching for.

3. Description of Sprīdītis (A span)
 Sprīdītis is a very small boy, he has a brown hat,
a brown jacket, a grey shirt, old pants, pastalas
(Simple footwear made of one piece of leather)
He has just a grandmother, who raised him and
she is nice and care for him.
He lives with stepmother and her children, and
she is always angry and makes him work as hard
and as much as possible.
His job is to heard cows and carve wodden
spoons
His aim is to find happiness in the world: to dig
out money, to build a castle, to marry a princess.

4. Wind mother and her sons.
First task: to stand over the four sons of Wind
mother.
He failed but because he had a brave heart she
gave him a magical pipe: while you blow in it,
eveybody should dance.

5. Lutausis (lop-eared).
The 2nd task: to liberate wood from Lutausis,
who was a giant and everybody was afraid of
him.
Lutausis has imprisoned 5 children who were
picking berries in the wood.
Sprīdītis took the pipe and started playing it.
Lutausis started to dance .
Lutausis got tired fast and asked for mercy .
Sprīdītis let him go but before that asked to
promise not to scary anyone.
The Mother of Wood gave a magical stick: if
somebody touches it, he will stick to it until you
won’t say: «I set you free!»

6. Sīkstulis (Miser).
The third task: to endure 3 tortures to
keep the old man in Miser’s house.
Sprīdītis endured 3 tortures but the
Miser did not want to keep the Old man
in house. So Sprīdītis got mad and they
started to fight. Sprīdītis used the pipe
and the stick.
For that the Old man gave to Sprīdītis a
magical ring: if you put it in and clap
your hands three times then the swan
will come and bring you to the Happy
land.

7. Magical weapons: a pipe and a stick

8. Devil.
The 4th task: to fight with the Devil who
wanted to marry a princess Zeltīte.
King promised, if he wins the devil, he can keep
the princess and a half of kingdom.
Sprīdītis won the devil using his magical
weapons and sent the Devil back to hell.
The princess was not happy because Sprīdītis
was small and poor and she wanted to kill him
by the help of witch but she failed.
Finding out the character of princess Sprīdītis
decided to use a ring given by the Old man.
