“There’s never been anything like what’s happened to this country

Editor's Notes
Introduce myself and give my background -- -I am a board certified Internal Medicine physician practicing for 17 years in Malibu, California
-I am cofounder and president of CURE, which is a full concierge wellness company. We provide concierge medical care as well as full service spa, medsp, salon and other wellness treatments and products.
-when you think of Malibu 2 things currently come to mind: (apart from Bay Watch)
1. it's wealth
2. its's drug and alcohol rehab centers
-I have been able to develop amazing businesses in both:)
-My first business is my concierge medical practice. It services the top 1%-those entertainers, athletes, musicians, business owners and executives of the world. They require and value the close relationship with me and my staff, the direct connection with us, and the full service wellness treatments and products needed to keep them at peak performance.
-My other business that I have simultaneously developed is my work in the drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers. When I first started in Malibu there were a just a few facilities in my neighborhood needing medical directors. As I dipped my toe into this world I quickly realized that addiction was an underserved health condition. Over the next 17 years I have expanded to become director of 14 facilities, some of them being the most famous in the world.
Malibu has now become the industry standard in the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction and I have been on the ground floor developing many of the protocols used nationwide today.
As a matter of fact, I think my current count of clients I have detoxed is over 30,000!!....and counting!!
(Intro to discussion of impact/facts of addiction)
He made this declaration on Thursday Aug 10, 2017

2. Facts about Addiction - What (discuss most treated substances)
2.6 million people with addictions have a dependence on both alcohol and illicit drugs.
9.4 million people in 2011 reported driving under the influence of illicit drugs.
6.8 million people with an addiction have a mental illness.
2. Facts about Addiction – Where (and overdose info)
- 100 people die every day from drug overdoses. This rate has tripled in the past 20 years.
- Over 5 million emergency room visits in 2011 were drug related.
2. Facts about Addiction – Who
Over 20 million Americans over the age of 12 have an addiction (excluding tobacco).
Rates of illicit drug use is highest among those aged 18 to 25.
Over 90% of those with an addiction began drinking, smoking or using illicit drugs before the age of 18.
-Obviously opiates/opiates are not the only substances abused.
Here is some insight into the overall addiction epidemic we are facing
(insert statistics about ALL types of addiction)
-This crisis covers all ages, races, genders, and socioeconomic status
- It has been around for decades and growing at an astronomical rate
- Here are some famous people that have struggled with addiction
Musicians-Yoko Ono, Elvis, Ray Charles, Whitney Houston, Prince, Amy Winehouse, Elton John, Bob Marley (humor with Bob Marley)
Athletes-Andre Agassi, Len Bias, Lamar Odam, Lawrence Taylor
Actors-Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Farrah Fawcett, Heath Ledger, Charlie Sheen, Chevy Chase
Here are pictures of people living amongst us in our everyday lives that also struggle with addiction
(insert pictures of firefighter, mailman, school teacher, airline pilot, etc)
-As you can see every one of us can be affected by addiction.
Mothers who take drugs during pregnancy give birth to babies who are physically dependent on those same drugs. When the umbilical cord is cut at birth, the baby immediately starts to go “cold turkey.”
Weaning babies off drugs takes time. It depends on so many factors — how long the mother had been using drugs, her daily dose, whether she was using multiple drugs… Often a detox protocol must be implemented, which may entail administering the same class of drugs the infant has been exposed to, and slowly tapering off.
3. Current rehab business: Intro to addiction medicine and ”rehab”
The U.S. Addiction Rehab Industry. Drug, alcohol and other addiction rehab in the United States is big business - $35 billion this year. There are now 14,000+ treatment facilities and growing. A total of 2.5 million persons received treatment, but many more need it and facilities are filled to capacity.
(Mention the number of treatment facilities in Malibu and number we’re working with)
3. Current rehab business: CURRENT METHODS FOR TREATMENT OF ADDICTION
-The standard treatment usually consists of leaving home and checking into a facility for a detox and rehabilitation program. This lasts approximately 30 days. This process can be summarized as follows:
1. locate a facility that fits client's needs-location, finances, pets, etc
2. transporting to facility
3. Current rehab business: CURRENT METHODS FOR TREATMENT OF ADDICTION
3. physician meets face to face with client within 24 hours and develops complete program to detox client from all substances in their system safely
4. psychiatrists, therapists and case managers assess client and execute a program consisting of one-on-one therapy, group sessions, meetings, etc-this is aimed to get to underlying reasons for addiction
3. Current rehab business: CURRENT METHODS FOR TREATMENT OF ADDICTION
5. once 30 days of treatment completed, client either returns home or moves to a sober living home.
6. If sober living home is chosen, it is usually a temporary lodging where clients that have addiction live together and support each other with rules, structure and accountability
7. ultimately clients must return to living on their own -continue to use medications and other mechanisms to remain sober
-This model has absolutely saved many lives, but still has limitations:
1. clients have to uproot and leave their homes, families, and jobs for weeks to months at a time
2. cost can be astronomical -both to clients and to insurance companies – (mention cost per month)
3. upon returning to home environment, there is often not continuity of support
-With all of the amazing facilities that are in existence the success rate of this current model is still only 8-10%
4. our proposed home detox biz and how it is different from the current model
HOME DETOX USING TELEMEDICINE
-As my private concierge medical practice grew, I realized so much of the success with client's health is because of the quick access and availability to care for them wherever they are.
Clients telemedi, call, email, and text us 24/7 and get immediate care
They receive this care at home, at the office, or while traveling around the world, etc....we go to them instead of them having to come to us
-This model has been applied now to the rehab industry and is proving to be extremely effective.
We are using telemedicine to provide detox and rehabilitation to clients in their comfort of their own home. This process occurs as follows:
1. clients contact our company
2. download Vsee telemedicine app
3. connect with healthcare professional immediately
4. detox program executed....includes daily meds delivered by service or nurse, daily visits via telemed,
5. rehab/aftercare program executed...once detox completed we continue to follow them via telemed for medical, psych and therapy visits. we provide podcasts/webinars, newsletters, supplements, etc to support them in their own environment
4. our proposed home detox biz and how it is different from the current model
HOME DETOX USING TELEMEDICINE
-Success has occurred on so many levels
1. we meet and care for clients in their own environments
2. cost significantly deducted for all
3. do not need to miss work or leave family, etc
4. having 1 team follow from the very beginning allows for complete continuity for greatest success!
