2. Small hole EDMs (also called hole poppers)
are used to erode small
diameter holes ranging
from .012" to .120”.
3. The electrode is typically a
copper tube that rotates in
order to provide even
electrode wear. Unlike
other EDM processes, a
small hole EDM is very fast
but the electrode will wear
during the process.
4. Small hole EDMs are commonly used for wire EDM start holes and bore holes
for turbine blades and other irregular shaped surfaces.
5. Fast cutting speed
Latest servo system dramatically improves
servo responsiveness and cutting speed.
Micro-step servo
New and improved micro step servo control
produces stable machining.
Versatile/easy machining
The K1C is easy to operate and requires no training.
It can machine a variety of materials
Including steel, carbide, aluminum, copper and
graphite.

Sodick CNC Small Hole EDM
Faster cutting speed than the K1CN
K-SMC (Sodick motion controller) is now standard
equipment. This enables optimum servo control and faster
cutting speed when compared to the K1CN.
User-friendly control
K3HN is equipped with auto programming software (LN
Assist). LN Assist enables even beginners to easily
operate the machine. Complicated programming is also
possible by using several calculation and macro
programs.

7. Commonly asked questions when buying a Sodick EDM
1. What are the power & air requirements for the machine?
A: 208v, 3 phase, (70psi K3HN)
2. What happens if I do not have 208v power?
A: You can use the transformer that comes with the machine.
3. Who installs the machine?
A: A factory-trained service engineer will install and test the machine. Installation is included
your machine purchase.
4. How do I get trained for the machine?
A: Your purchase includes training for the machines.
5. Where do I buy my spare parts and EDM consumables from?
A: Sodick manufactures their own spare parts and consumables that maximize
the machine’s efficiency. Sodick Inc. houses a $5 million parts inventory that
ensures consumable and replacement parts are readily available. Our experienced
staff guides you through your parts selection.

Copper electrodes: copper electrodes in .004” (.1mm)
diameter increments at 12” (300mm) length (20 pieces
/pack)
Guide sets: each electrode diameter will require its own
guide set, like the electrodes, guides come in .004” (.1mm)
increments
Vitol: Sodick’s patented Vitol machining fluid,
machine small holes at much faster speeds than
small hole machines which use water as a
dielectric fluid.
