The prevalence of chronic rhinosinusitis worldwide ranges from about 8% in China, 8.4% in Korea, 11% in Europe, 12% in US.
In India, estimated 134 million Indians suffer from chronic sinusitis, one in 8 Indians suffer from chronic sinusitis.

14. ETIOLOGY
1. Infection – nasal infection, pharyngeal infection,
tooth infection
2. Trauma to sinus – contusion of sinus, compound
fracture of sinus.
3. Viruses – rhinovirus , para influenza I and II
4. Bacteria – pneumococci , streptococci, staphylococci
5. Other causes – poor general health, chronic
bronchitis

Pre operative –
1. Ineffective breathing pattern related to
obstruction of sinuses
2. Acute pain related to inflammation of sinus
3. Anxiety related to lack of knowledge about
procedure and disease condition.
Post operative
1.Impaired sense of comfort related to pressure in
head and sinuses
2.Risk for Reoccurrence related to irregular
treatment.
36. HEALTH EDUCATION
• Advice client to get proper rest and sleep
• Advice to drink 6-8 glasses of water
• Take hot shower daily 2times , use NS spray, humidifier ,
steam inhaler to promote secretion drainage
• Instruct to avoid blowing nose
• Advice nasal saline washes once or twice a day
• Apply warm damp towel around nose, cheek, eyes to relieve
pain

researchers , study published in the “ Journal of
allergy and clinical immunology “ Examined tissue
and mucus specimen of 147 patients between 18-78
who have chronic sinusitis and required surgery.
Result – found that old patient have a unique
inflammatory signature that may render them Less
responsive to steroid treatment.
