2. • Health Education England – strategic body for education,
training and workforce issues from 1st April 2013
• Has a multiprofessional remit
• There are 13 Local Education and Training Boards (LETBs)
which are local committees of HEE
• Governance and structures are currently under review.
Proposal to retain 13 LETBs but cluster them into 4
geographical areas – North, Midlands & East, South and
London
• New structure will begin to be implemented from October
3. • Health Education England has recently published a Strategic
Framework 2014-2029 (Framework 15)
• It looks at the characteristics of the future workforce that will be
needed in order to meet the anticipated needs of people and
patients
• It outlines a sense of direction – the challenges and
opportunities ahead – rather than prescribing a route which
may soon be diverted by changes which cannot be predicted
now

4. • Health Education England has assumed “ownership” of NHS
library and knowledge services in England
• HEE has requested a strategic review of LKS, to mirror the
timeframe of “Framework 15” – 2014-2029
• This work is being led by the HEE Library and Knowledge
Services Leads (LKSL) with support from the HEE
Directorates of Strategy and Education & Quality
5. This review will develop and publish a strategic framework for NHS
library and knowledge services for 2014-2029 that:
•Identifies future leadership requirements, service models and
continuous quality improvement methodologies to ensure LKS
remain a fundamental and integral part of NHS service provision
•Reviews the role of library services and how our work fits with the
HEE strategic framework
•Develops a strategic approach to libraries to ensure LKSL business is
embedded in HEE workstreams and aligned to HEE business cycle
•Determines models for LKSL leadership at national & local level
•Considers and reviews national and local electronic content
procurement to ensure value for money
