• The Process of deciding which materials should be added to the library
collection.
• Selection of Library materials are a result of user feedback from
Consumer needs assessment Survey’s conducted by the Librarians or
Recommendation’s provided by Library users.
• The User of the Library is in control of the Collection Development of
the Library.

• Acquire Material that suit the user needs
• Acquire materials that will attract more consumers

soothing interior theme.
Fittings and Furniture: Racks
should be short enough while
tables and chairs should be
comfortable
Gangways: Gangways between
Rows of Book stacks should be
generous, so should gangways
between reading tables.
Lighting: colour should smoothen
the glare of natural light.
Ventilation: should have the
benefit of natural ventilation.

waste to the library.
Book Selection: Do not select
books in lanuguages not
commonly read in the locality, do
not select books of a standard not
suited in locality
Classified Arrangement:
emphasises on the arrangement of
boks in a classified sequence
based on their content.the
arrangement shall aslo attract the
attention of the reader to books of
the nighbouring subject, thus the
chance for these neighbouring
books getting their readers will
increase.

Classified Arrangements: Classified
arrangements of books in the stack
room saves the objective time of the
reader
Catalogue: the alphabetical
arrangement of catalogue cards helps
the reader to find his required book

of issue virtually eliminates wastage
of objective time, issue work can be
done with the comfort at rate of 10
books per minute
Open Space: Open access alone can
save the subjective time of the reader
